you need to leave the classroom for a reason.
8. Get involved in discussion.
9. Clean as you go (CLAY GO)
A. Reviewing previous ELICIT: 4 CORNERS

presenting the new "Class, let's recall our previous lesson using a game called '4
lesson Corners.' You will see four letters displayed in each corner of the
room. I'll project a question on the screen for you to silently read
and answer. When I give the signal, move to the corner that
matches your response."

Are you ready class? Yes Ma’am

b. Carry amino acids to the ribosome
c. Unwind the DNA double helix
d. Facilitate the assembly of amino acid into proteins.

B. Establishing a ENGAGE: GUESS ME, ARRANGE ME!

purpose for the
lesson I want you to group yourselves into 5 based on the colour of
your name tags. So every group will have a box full of letters. So
each member will guess what is being flashed on the screen and
will pick up those letters from the box and arrange it on the board.
Whoever finishes first will be rewarded.

Are you now ready class? Yes, Ma’am

Based on our activity what will be our discussion for today?

I think our topic for today
is all about Mutations

Very Good, So today we will discuss about mutations.

skills #1 Video presentation: Chromosomal Mutation
1. Listen and watch attentively to the video.
2. Take down important details/terms about the different
types of chromosomal mutation.

Guide Questions:

1. What are the different types of chromosomal The different types of

mutation? mutation are gene
mutation and
chromosomal mutation.

2. In your own word how are you going to explain Gene mutation is an
chromosomal mutation based on what you have alteration in the
seen? sequence of nucleotides
in the DNA while
Chromosomal mutation
is an unpredictable
change that occurs in
the chromosomes.
Group Activity: Concept Map

Now that you already know the different types of

chromosomal mutation and able to determine the difference
between them let's have an activity again.

So I want you to group yourselves based on the color of the

sticks in your name tags.

Are you ready class Yes, Ma’am

So I want you to make a concept map of mutation and its

different types.

After that choose one representative each group to present

your work.
F. Developing
mastery (leads to EXPLAIN:
Formative
Assessment 3)
Group Activity
Activity title: CHROMIE CHANGE

Materials:
1. Modeling clay of varied color
2. Learning Activity Sheet
Procedures:
Learners will be grouped into three. Each group will be given
activity worksheet and perform the activity in every learning
station for 5 minutes. Make sure to observe classroom rules
while doing the activity.

STATION 1: TRANSLOCATION
1. Using the modelling clay the students will make a
model of two (2) chromosomes. The one
chromosome should have a different color and size
from the other.
2. The students will break one part of each of the
chromosomes, exchange the parts and attach them
to each of the other chromosomes. See illustration
below.

3. They will record their observation by filling in the table

in their worksheet.

STATION 2: DELETION
1. Using the clay provided in the second station, the
students will make a model of a chromatid (one of the
duplicated copies of a chromosome).
2. They will remove a portion of it (close to either end of
the chromosome or within the long arm or short arm).

4. Like what they did in the first station, they need to

record their observation by filling in the table in their
worksheet.

STATION 3: INVERSION
1. The students will make a colored chromatid as shown
below.

2. After that, students will break a portion (with 2 colors)

of it. Refer to the illustration below.

3. Next, they will reinsert it to the chromatid in reverse

manner.

4. Lastly, they will record their observation by filling in

the tablein their worksheet

CHROMOSOMAL MUTATIONS

1. How many
chromosomes

involved?
2. How did you
change the

3. Which
condition do
you think

material?
Please
indicate using
the words

either loss or
gain of genetic
material.

Guide Questions:
1. How are the three chromosomal aberrations different
from each other? How are they similar?
2. Do you think the normal genetic content of the
chromosome is affected?
What do you think are the possible factors that cause
mutations and will eventually lead to human genetic
disorders?

Post Activity: Presentation of the Group Output

Ask one representative from each group to present their

group output.

be broken out and reinserted backwards. This is known
as _________.
a. deletion. b. insertion. c. inversion. d. translocation.

J. Additional activities
