any conventional system of marks or
signs that represents the utterances of
a language. Writing renders language
visible.
Writing can be defined as a process
of transforming thought into written
language (Tiwari, 2005:120). In
other words, writing is the process of
expressing ideas, thinking or feeling
in words on the piece of paper.

3 STAGES OF WRITING

1. PRE WRITING
Prewriting is the first stage of the writing
process, typically followed by drafting,
revision, editing and publishing. Prewriting
can consist of a combination of outlining,
diagramming, storyboarding, and clustering.
 TOPIC
 GENERATING IDEAS
 AUDIENCE
 THEMES

2. DURING WRITING
Once students are ready to write, they need
clear instructions and resources to complete
the next steps in the process:
 self-editing,
 expanding,
 Students should be allowed to use
notes they generated from the pre-
writing tasks.
 Let them use a dictionary or spell-
checker,
 Sequence of events
 Eliminate unnecessary details
 Review your writings, vocabulary,
grammar, styles and mechanics

3. POST WRITING
We define post-writing as the step in the
writing process where the written text is
shared with other audiences, such as a peer-
editor or the instructor or even with the
general public.
The most important aspect of the publishing
stage involves two key factors: editing and
revising.
Editing refers to correcting any grammatical
errors and revising refers to re-writing
sentences or paragraphs or reorganizing
ideas.

The basic components of post-writing

activities:
Re-read your story, make sure sentences
make sense.
Add phrases to make the story flow smoothly
(cohesion markers, pronouns, conjunctions).
Eliminate "fluff" (unnecessary or redundant
details).
Proofread for spelling, vocabulary, grammar
(checklist).
Edit your paper (peer-editing, post-teacher
editing).
Share with audience (website, print, etc.).
