CROSSING THE BAR

by Alfred Lord Tennyson

Sunset and evening star, For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place
And one clear call for me! The flood may bear me far,
And may there be no moaning of the bar, I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I put out to sea, When I have crost the bar.

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,

Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from
out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,

And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

Learning Activity #2 “Reading Input”
Directions: Read and understand the topic presented
below.

Topic: Make Connections

You might have not noticed, but your previous

experiences, knowledge, emotions, and understanding
affect what and how you learn (Harvey & Goudvis,2000).
Called the schema, your background knowledge and
experiences actually help you make sense and meaning of
the material you are exposed to. Learning how to access
these prior knowledge, experiences, emotions, and
opinions can help you make a connection to the text to
help you understand concepts better.
Keene and Zimmerman (1997, as cited in Kardash,2004)
concluded that students like you comprehend better when
you make different kinds of connections. These three
(3) connections include the following:
 text-to-self,
 text-to-text, and
 text-to-world.

(The teacher will enumerate and explain the 3

types of connections)

Learning Activity # 2: Making Annotations

Making Annotations
The Teacher will give the definition of annotation and
see it below.
2. Define
annotation The best way to remember and associate your experiences
with those presented in any text is by annotating.
Annotating is to make marks on the text. It is not
simply highlighting appealing words or sentences;
though you will most likely end up highlighting the
entire selection.

The Teacher will present a poem and the students will

annotate it see the example below.
