INTRODUCTION
Vermiculture embodies the utilization of earthworms to facilitate the
conversion of organic waste into nutrient-enriched compost. This
environmentally mindful method not only curtails the accumulation of waste in
landfills but also amplifies soil fertility. Our project seeks to uncover the latent
potential of vermiculture as a viable remedy for waste management challenges
and soil enhancement.

Although the practice of vermiculture has found a foothold within the grounds
of Budhanilkantha School, its full utilization remains untapped. Evidently, the
institution possesses the inherent resources to supply the requisite
vermicompost for diverse projects within the knowledge park. Given this
backdrop, our proposal advocates for a comprehensive exploration and
practical application of vermiculture on the school premises, thereby paving
the way for pioneering research and experiential learning at the
undergraduate level.

OBJECTIVES
The main objectives of the project are:

 Investigate the process of vermiculture and its effectiveness in converting

organic waste into nutrient-rich compost.
 Assess the impact of vermiculture on reducing landfill waste and its potential
contribution to environmental sustainability.
 Analyze the influence of vermicompost on enhancing soil fertility and plant
growth through controlled experiments.
 Evaluate the feasibility of implementing vermiculture on the premises of
Budhanilkantha School, considering available resources and space.
 Develop a step-by-step guide for initiating and maintaining a vermiculture
system suitable for a school environment.
 Compare the quality and nutrient content of vermicompost with traditional
compost and synthetic fertilizers.
 Collaborate with teachers and students to raise awareness about
vermiculture's benefits and its role in sustainable waste management.
 Assess the economic viability of scaling up vermiculture operations for
potential integration into larger institutional waste management strategies.

3
 Present findings and recommendations through informative workshops and
reports, encouraging broader adoption of vermiculture practices within the
school and beyond.
