PROJECT PROPOSAL

Project Title: VERMICULTURE

Project Proponent: JOSHUA D. VALIENTE

Project Site: Cadaratan National High School, Cadaratan, Bacarra,

Ilocos Norte

Project Duration: 3 Months

Beneficiaries: Students, Teachers, Parents, and the Community of

Cadaratan National High School

I. Project Rationale:

Vermiculture stabilize active organic materials and convert them to a

valuable soil amendment and souce of plant nutrients. It used to manage
wastes, provide livelihood to the people and produce highly organic products in a
more affordable market value.

It is usually done by putting biodegradable wastes and animal

manures in a vermin made-up concrete materials or sacks. Wastes would
undergo with decomposing process using African Night Crawler also known as
“the composting worm” normally it would take 30-40 days. The produces
manures of worms are called “vermicast” which is used as organic fertilizer. The
vermicast will have to undergo sifting and airdrying before marketing.

This project is relevant in focusing sustainable balance of nature

when it comes to usage and production of environmental entities. Generally,
vermicasts are comosed of phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen and calcium which
restores microbial population and provides nutrient to the plants and soil.
Vermiculture also improves soil texture and water holding capacity which is
effective in preventing soil erosion. Therefore, it enhances the quality of
agricultural crops.

II. Project Objectives:

1. To produce quality vermi-organic fertilizer for the use of the “gulayan

sa paaralan.”
2. Technology transfer to the student as source of other income for the
family.
3. Recycle the vast biodegradable materials in school into vermi-fertilizer
as Income Generating Project (IGP).
4. Extend surplus vermi-fertilizer production to farmers in the immediate
Community at a reasonable prize.

III. Working Plan:

1. Establish vermi-composting facilities.

2. Vermi compost fertilizer production of approximately 120 bags per
year.
3. The TLE students shall practice technology and transfer skills to their
farmer parents.
4. “Gulayan sa Paaralan” production as show case in the school and the
community people.
5. Recycle the vast biodegradable materials in school into a vermi
fertilizer.

IV. Budgetary Requirements:

A. Materials Required

V. Monitoring /Evaluation:

The TLE in-charge or the assigned agricultural teacher will accomplish

regular report to the school hear regarding the progress of the operation,
accompanied by the financial indicators stating the inverntories, sales and
