Unit Overview

The amount of time spent on this instruction will be six days. The topics covered will directly align with the state
requirements.
In accordance with Iowa Code 279.50, the School District is providing students with a Human Growth &
Development unit. Also in accordance with Iowa Code 256.11, the district will provide instruction on the
following topics:

1. Human Sexuality
a. Male/Female Reproductive System (Anatomy)
b. Pregnancy and Prenatal Development/Prenatal Care/Stages of Labor
2. Prevention and control of disease and the characteristics of communicable diseases, including
sexually transmitted diseases, acquired immune deficiency syndrome
a. Abstinence
b. Birth Control Methods
3. HPV and the availability of a vaccine to prevent HPV, and acquired immune deficiency
syndrome
4. Interpersonal Relationships
a. Refusal Skills (relationship, unhealthy situations)

Timeline:
Instruction will occur during the last two weeks of the semester. For the 22-23 school year the dates will be as
follows (dates may change if weather related cancellations occur). Remember, this course meets every other
day.
