Pyrofax Energy Congratulates Race Car
Driver Grant Folsom on Excellent Season
For ten years Grant Folsom has held two jobs. By day he can be
found working for Pyrofax Energy, and in the warm weather
months, behind the wheel of his Late Model car, which speeds
around the Thunder Road race track.
We are so proud of Grant for yet another outstanding season,
and for all of his racing achievements. While were pleased that
were able to help his racing career by being a sponsor, were even
more thrilled that hes a member of our Pyrofax Energy team.
Whether hes behind the wheel of his race car, or helping
Vermonters with their heating needs, Grant is driven to excel and
make a difference, said Ally Libby manager at the Morrisville
branch.
At Pyrofax Energy, Folsom currently serves as their Service
Manager, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the service
department for their divisions in Morrisville, Montpelier, Waitsfield
and White River Junction.
I love being a part of the Pyrofax Energy family, and Im truly
grateful and honored for their ongoing support of me and my race
team, explained Folsom.
Some of Folsoms highlights from the 2011 season are: Winning
on Harvest Equipment Night at Thunder Road on June 19; a second
place finish on Safelite Auto Glass Night on August 4; and finish-
ing 13th overall out of a field of 50 in the 2011 Milk Bowl.
Other achievements on the race track include, winning the 2008
ARP Bodies award at Riverside Speedway in Groveton, New
Hampshire by accumulating more heat race points than any other
driver.
From 2009 - 2011, Folsom has been one of only four drivers to
have won at least one race in the Thunder Road Late Model Weekly
Point counting races. He has garnered three wins, five, top-3 podi-
um finishes at Thunder Road, eight top-5 and ten top-10 finishes;
and in 2010 he scored more points in heat races than any other
driver that season.

Peoples Academy Takes
Northfield 2-0 In
State Division III Final
STORY & PHOTOS BY DAVID HEATH
Last Saturday on a frosty Veterans Memorial Field at Randolph
Union High School the No. 8 Peoples Academy Wolves and the
No. 7 Northfield High School Marauders boys soccer teams com-
peted for the Vermont State Division III Championship. The first
half went scoreless for both teams though Peoples held the advan-
tage in time of possession. In the second half Peoples Owen
Fellows was able to beat out Northfields defense scoring two
unassisted goals. Fellows landed his second goal in the last min-
ute of play. Northfield out shot Peoples on goal but was unable to
score. Marauder goal keeper Billy Whaley, considered one of the
best goalies in the state, had two saves. Wolves goalie Alex
Bousquet had five saves. Northfield finishes their 2011 season
with a 10-6-2 record and Peoples ends with an 11-5-2 record.

Bulldogs Squeeze By Raiders 1-0 For
Division II State Championship
STORY & PHOTOS BY DAVID HEATH
Raider # 25 Russell Johnson turns the ball in front of Bulldog defender Robert England as Brock Allen and
John Rahill support the play in the background.

No. 1 Burr and Burton Academy Bulldogs and
the No. 2 U-32 Raiders boys soccer teams both
played strong defenses in their Vermont State
Division II final in South Burlington last
Saturday. The Raiders game changed after the
first minute of play when their leading scorer
Jack Shea went down with a knee injury and was
out for the rest of the game. The first half went
scoreless. With 11:31 minutes left in the second
half Bulldogs Greg Goldstone struck a low mis-
sile of a shot past Raider goal keeper Clark
Stridsberg for the only goal of the game.
Stridsberg had 8 saves in goal and Bulldogs
goalie Mike Nolan had 5 saves. U-32 finishes
their season with an 11-4-3 record and Burr and
Burton Academy ends their season 15-2-1.
AARP Driver Safety Program Offers
Free Courses to Vermont Veterans
In honor of Veterans Day and in recognition of their dedication
and commitment to service, the AARP Driver Safety Program
(DSP) is waiving entrance fees to its classroom courses for veter-
ans in Vermont and across the country in November. All military
personnel, active duty or retired, are eligible to receive a free DSP
classroom course during the month of November (Nov. 1-30,
2011). Military personnel include those individuals who serve or
have served in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National
Guard/Reserves, or Coast Guard.
Military spouses (including widows and widowers) and depen-
dent children are also eligible to take the class, free of charge, as
long as they present valid military spouse, widower, or dependent
identification, such as a dependent ID card or a membership card
to organizations such as the American Legion or Veterans of
Foreign Wars. The classroom course normally costs $12 for AARP
members and $14 for non-members.
Since 1979, the AARP Driver Safety Program has helped over
13 million drivers learn safety strategies and adapt to physical and
cognitive changes related to aging. The course teaches valuable
defensive driving skills and provides a refresher of the rules of the
road. Plus, participants may qualify for an automobile insurance
discount by completing the classroom course.
With classes offered in communities throughout Vermont, veter-
ans should have little difficulty finding a class thats conveniently
located. Classes are limited in size, however, so those interested
should call early to find a class that fits their needs. Registrations
will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
After signing up for a course, participants should bring a valid
military identification to the classroomsuch as discharge papers
(DD Form 214), American Legion cards, dependent ID cards or
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) cards. Participating veterans will
be asked to complete a Veteran Participation Form as part of the
course, which will be provided on site by the instructor.
Locate a course near you by visiting DSPs online course locator
at www.aarp.org/findacourse or by calling 1-888-AARP-NOW
(1-888-227-7669). Please note that this promotion is for the class-
room course only. It does not apply to the AARP Driver Safety
Online Course.

n Finally, NASCAR acted like a responsible
parent and spanked its little spoiled brat, Kyle
Busch, sidelining him for the entire weekend in
both the Nationwide and Cup Series after Busch
threw one of his patented temper tantrums Friday
night and walled championship contender Ron
Hornaday Jr in the Camping World Series race at
Texas Motor Speedway. Busch, known for his
uncontrollable temper and childlike actions and
reactions finally felt the firm hand of the sanc-
tioning body. Busch let go a few seasons ago by
Hendrick Motorsports because of attitude issues
has come full circle with Joe Gibbs Racing and
placed the popular coach in the cat-bird seat with
fans, sponsors and peers within the sport. For
years the sport was dominated by drivers who
worked their way through the ranks, gaining
experience in the seat as they matured before
reaching their peak in the mid to late thirties as
grown men. Unlike today, when immature ado-
lescences are pushed into the limelight with
premier teams long before they can grow a
decent beard and have matured enough to handle
the high-pressure of the worlds most popular
and competitive racing series. Busch has tempt-
ed the over-the-line edge far too long and this
time crossed it with a vengeance that could cost
him a ride and a future. Even thought Busch was
driving his own Kyle Busch Motorsports truck
the repercussions could cost Coach Gibbs
respect he has spent a lifetime acquiring, say
nothing about the support he has gained from
sponsors building one of the sports most elite
teams.
n If winning races alone determined the
championship Tony Stewart would be in the
proverbial drivers seat but after winning his
fourth of eight Chase races to date Sunday at
Texas Motor Speedway, Stewart still trails point
leader Carl Edwards, who finished second by
three points heading to the last two races of the
season at Phoenix International and Homestead-
Miami. Sundays win was the second consecu-
tive for Stewart in a run where he has gained 21
points on the leader in the last three races. Kasey
Kahne, Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle rounded
out the top five, respectively. If Stewart contin-
ues his run to the top of the standings he would
be the first owner-driver to win the Cup champi-
onship since Alan Kulwicki. Stewart led a race
high 173 of 334 laps to narrow the gap on
Edwards who started the event 8 points up.
Kevin Harvick sits third in the points chase 33
behind Edwards while Matt Kenseth hangs in
fourth 38 markers back. The Chase moves to
Phoenix next week and a newly paved and con-
figured track where Edwards and Stewart fin-
ished one and two the last race there back in
March- the third race of the season and then to
Homestead-Miami where Edwards completed
back-to-back wins (Phoenix and Homestead) at
the end of last season.
nDaytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne took the
measure of teammate Carl Edwards, who led 157
of the 200 laps, passing the past series champion
with six laps left in Saturdays Nationwide Series
event at Texas Motor Speedway to earn his first
career win in the series. Bayne won this years
Daytona 500 but had never visited Victory Lane
in his 76 Nationwide Series starts. Denny
Hamlin, substituting for the suspended Kyle
Busch, also slipped by Edwards at the end of the
race to finish second. Edwards held on for third
followed by Clint Bowyer in fourth. Point leader
Rick Stenhouse Jr finished sixth and extended
his lead over Elliott Sadler, who finished ninth,
to 17 with two races left in the season. In win-
ning Bayne secured the series third manufac-
turer title for Ford and the 299th NASCAR win
for car owner Jack Roush.
n Kevin Harvick watched arch-rival Kyle
Busch put his championship contending team
driver Ron Hornaday Jr in the wall under caution
and then drove his KHI truck to Victory Lane
and the Camping World Truck Series owners
title. Harvick finished ahead of series points
leader Austin Dillon, who stretched his points
lead over Johnnie Sauter to 20 points with one
race to go at Homestead-Miami in two weeks.
James Buescher slipped to third in points, 28
points behind Dillon, after running out of fuel on
a green-white-checkered finish and finishing
19th. Dillon, the grandson of Cup team owner
Richard Childress has only to start the event at
Homestead and finish 16th or better to win the
title. Dillon will move to the Nationwide Series
in 2012 and run a No 3 Chevrolet. Ty Dillon, also
a grandson of Childress and brother to the series
points leader finished third ahead of Nelson
Piquet Jr. and Matt Crafton.
Nearly 150 drivers, owners
and crew members attended last Sundays town
meeting with new Devils Bowl Speedway track
owners, Mike and Alayne Bruno to discuss the
tracks future. I am honored by the turnout we
had here today for Devil Bowls town meeting,
said Bruno, who spoke with competitors at the
Holiday Inn-Rutland. The support already being
with Steve Poulin
shown for our new effort is overwhelming.
Everyone knows that weve got work to do, but
it appears that the racers want to work together
with us as managers for the betterment of every-
one. Thats very, very important. Few absolute
decisions were made by management at the
meeting. Input was received from nearly every
attendee, however, and future meetings will be
held during the off-season to discuss matters
further. The lines of communication are open,
and thats what we wanted to establish, Alayne
Bruno said. We were confident before the meet-
ing that we would be able to elevate Devils
Bowl into, as were saying, a place you want to
race in 2012. The new owners have announced
a press conference for this Tuesday in Rutland.
On the agenda: Introduction of new Devils
Bowl Speedway owners Mike & Alayne Bruno
Announcement of NASCAR Whelen All-
American Series sanction for 2012 Review of
October 23 test session and October 30 town
meeting Plans for 2012 season and beyond

he rub on Kyle Busch has been that he
cant win the Sprint Cup Series champi-
onship.
That when it comes time for the Chase
each season, for whatever reason, he and
his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing team cant
get it done.
Well, here we are again or maybe
not.
True, after a solid regular season,
Busch has once again failed to win the
Chase with three races left to go. He sits
seventh in the series standings, 57 points
behind leader Carl Edwards.
Unless there is a dramatic change, it looks
like Busch will have to wait yet another season
for his chance at his first Cup title.
Yet Buschs crew chief, Dave Rogers, is
adamant things are much better than they
appear. At least in how Busch and the No. 18
Toyota team has handled the adversity its
faced in this Chase.
In life you have to go through tests and last
year we were in the Chase and we had a num-
ber of tests come our way and quite frankly,
we didnt handle them that well, Rogers said.
I think that as a team weve handled a lot
of tests this year really well, but none in the
Chase. Now the Chase comes and weve been
dealt a lot of tests and Im really proud of how
this team has handled it.
I havent seen people
bow their heads. I havent
seen people complaining.
I havent seen Kyle get
frustrated. We just go to
the race track and work as
hard as we can.
The results this season
have been more difficult
to accept, simply because for a large part in the
Chase, the problems have been out of their
control, Rogers said.
Sundays race at Martinsville (Va.)
Speedway was another such example.
Busch led the most laps in the race, and
while he may not have come away with a win,
he was in excellent position for a strong finish
until he was caught up in an accident with Matt
Kenseth less than 40 laps from the finish.
This is another one of those tests and it
clearly hurts any realistic shot at winning a
championship this year. Theres still a chance
we wont give up, but realistically we know
its over, Rogers said.
In the end a year from now, two years
from now, 10 years from now this will
make us better people and a better race team
and thats how you go forward.
Despite a good regular
season, Chase success
eludes driver Kyle Busch

Did you know that 150 drivers entered and
competed in American Canadian Tour Late
Model events in 2011 while on the other side of
the border 105 drivers competed in the sister
series- Serie ACT Castrol races.
Sprint Cup driver David Reutimann is hitting
the ride needed ads this week, after Michael
Waltrip Racing announced that they were parting
ways with the driver at the end of the current
season. Reutimann had signed a three-year exten-
sion to his MWR contract just last year, making
the news of his sudden exit from the team much
unexpected. The timing of the announcement
right at the close to the end of the season, with
most of the major teams already having signed
drivers for 2012 - makes his prospects of finding
another race seat look somewhat bleak at this
point, especially with teams cutting back because
of the tight financial situation in the economy.
Multiple media sources are claiming that
Reutimanns seat in the No 00 will be taken on a
part-time basis by veteran race driver Mark
Martin, whose contract with Hendrick
Motorsports expires at the end of this season .
Kasey Kahne will replace Martin in the
Hendricks No 5.
This certainly is a bittersweet week for Kenny
Wallace. After cheering the improbable World
Series comeback by his beloved St. Louis
Cardinals, the popular NASCAR veteran started
the 520th race of his NASCAR Nationwide
Series career at Texas, surpassing the previous
An Early Present for
Blaney, Baldwin
The finish of the Good Sam
Club 500 was side-by-side, but
third place was Cinderella.
Dave Blaney, driving the
underfunded Golden Corral
Chevy for owner Tommy
Baldwin, took the checkered flag third, matching
a career best.
Blaney, who just turned 49, was understand-
ably ecstatic.
We have to thank (fourth-place) Brad
Keselowski, who stayed with us all day long,
every lap, Blaney said. When you get some-
body committed to you, no matter what, it makes
it a lot easier. Then its just timing at the end.
We were in the right place at the right time,
squeezed through a couple holes, there you are.
The finish was worth $160,833, a tidy sum for
Baldwins struggling team.
Its huge for a race team, Blaney added. Its
a tiny little team. This race car weve got, it was
a Bill Davis (owned) car in 2007 and 2008. Its
not a killer. Its a big, big accomplishment for us
to come out.
This is a track where you can do this. You can
hang in all day. With Brad Keselowskis help, we
could hang in all day and take advantage of get-
ting a big push at the right time. Thats what it
comes down to here, having a car that will roll
the last couple laps to do that. It all just worked
out.
The autumn Talladega Superspeedway race
was the 393rd of Blaneys career but only his
fourth top-five finish. He has two career poles.
His best previous finish this season was 13th at
Richmond, Va., on April 30.
While Bowyer, who won, and second-place
Jeff Burton were breaking away from the pack,
Blaney and Keselowski were advancing from
14th and 15th in the races decisive, two-lap fin-
ish.
That was odd to see them get that far away
that quick, Blaney, from Hartford, Ohio, said.
That is obviously what made it a different kind
of race. ... Its exciting racing, whether its tan-
dem or packs, stressful on the drivers, exciting
for the fans.

mark of 519 held by his good friend Jason Keller.
Wallace and Keller are the only drivers in series
history to make over 500 starts.
His celebration will be tempered, however,
due to the passing of his father Russ Wallace last
weekend. Kenny Wallace, his brothers Rusty and
Mike, nephew Steve and others in the Wallace
family cite Russ, the family patriarch, as the
conduit to their racing heritage.
With a come-from-behind victory at
Martinsville Speedway and again last weekend
in Texas, Tony Stewart cut the deficit between he
and points leader Carl Edwards to three points.
This budding feud has some juice behind it.
Consider these two marquee drivers The Odd
Couple of NASCAR: Tonys Burger King,
Carls Subway. Tonys outspoken, with little
worry about being politically correct. Carls a
sponsors dream, always quick to flash a smile.
If Stewart can overcome his three-point deficit,
he would become first owner/driver since Alan
Kulwicki in 1992 to win a NASCAR Sprint Cup
title. Maybe more impressively, he would join
Cale Yarborough, Lee Petty, Darrell Waltrip and
David Pearson with three championships.
Everyone on that list is either a NASCAR Hall
of Famer or a NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee.
What Theyre Saying
Carl Edwards had better be real worried.
Thats all Ive got to say. Hes not going to sleep
for the next three weeks. Tony Stewart let the
world know that he was aiming for points
leader Carl Edwards, whose lead shrunk to three
points. Stewarts fourth Chase win of the season
inched him closer to a possible third NASCAR
Sprint Cup Series championship.
Historically Ive been a guy that could lose
my composure as fast as anyone. Its not natural
to me to stay calm and try to keep moving for-
ward. My natural reaction is always to get really
excited. But I think through some of the bad
times that weve had, the frustrations weve had,
I think all those things have helped me to realize
that, hey, look, the goal right now is to go out
and win this championship. Weve been work-
ing hard towards that goal. I think as a team Bob
Osborne and I are able to approach problems
methodically and calmly. I think that adds up to
a majority of the reason weve led the points for
half of the season, those lessons, weve been
applying them. - Carl Edwards on the pressure
of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup

Vermont Moose Hunters Had a Successful Season
Deadline for Watershed Grants is December 9
Vermont moose hunters had a successful hunting season
according to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. A new
archery moose hunt was held October 1-7, and the regular moose
hunting season was October 15-20.
A preliminary count shows that by October 25, the department
had received official reports of 10 moose being taken by 53 hunt-
ers in the archery season, and 231 moose taken by 406 hunters in
the regular season, said Cedric Alexander, Vermonts moose proj-
ect leader. A few additional reports are still expected to be sent in
from other reporting agents.
Vermonts moose population is being managed scientifically,
according to a plan developed on sound wildlife biology and input
from the public, said Alexander. We are pleased that licensed
hunters achieved moose harvests very close to expectations for
most Wildlife Management Units.
This was Vermonts 19th moose hunting season in modern
times, the first occurring in 1993 when 30 permits were issued and
25 moose were taken by hunters.
The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department reports that 1,008
residents and 450 nonresidents entered Vermonts 2011 archery
moose permit lottery, and an 8,788 residents and 2,614 nonresi-
dents entered the regular moose season lottery.
A final report on Vermonts moose hunting season will be issued
in January when all of the 2011 data have been received and
reviewed.
Applications are available for the 2012 Vermont Watershed
Grants Program to fund projects that help Vermonters protect,
restore and enjoy the states watersheds. Applications are due to
the Vermont Watershed Grants office by Friday, December 9.
Watershed Grants are available to municipalities, local or
regional governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations, and citi-
zen groups, said Rick Hopkins of the Vermont Department of
Environmental Conservation (VTDEC). Watershed Grants can be
awarded for many types of watershed projects, including those
that protect or restore water quality, shorelines, or fish and wildlife
habitats.
In light of the damage from Tropical Storm Irene, this year we
are very interested in projects that implement practical measures
or involve education on stream habitat protection, restoration,
flood resiliency and related topics, added Hopkins.
Rod Wentworth of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department
explained that watershed grants provide a way for local people to
make a difference. This is a great opportunity for sporting clubs
or watershed groups to do something to help their local stream or
lake, such as planting trees or developing a watershed conserva-
tion plan or outreach program, said Wentworth. Many Vermont
rivers sustained a lot of damage as a result of Irene and in some
cases the recovery work that followed. The more we can do to
spread the word about best practices for flood remediation, the
better.
Vermont Watershed Grants is a joint project of the Vermont Fish
and Wildlife Department and VTDEC. It is funded by Vermont
Conservation License Plate sales. The program has funded 292
watershed projects statewide since 1998. This year, $120,000 is
available to fund grants up to a maximum possible per grant
amount of $15,000.
When Vermonters purchase a Conservation License Plate
theyre helping protect clean water as well as conserving wildlife
and important habitats for future generations, said Fish and
Wildlife Commissioner Patrick Berry. Proceeds from the sale of
Conservation License Plates fund the Watershed Grants program
and help support the Fish and Wildlife Departments Nongame
Wildlife Fund.
The Watershed Grants application guide and application forms
are available on the web at: www.anr.state.vt.us/dec/waterq/lakes/
htm/lp_watershedgrants.htm
Applications for the Vermont Conservation License Plate are
available on the Fish and Wildlife website: www.vtfishandwild-
life.com/support_plates.cfm and at offices of the Department of
Motor Vehicles.
