Airborne Speedway Forms New Division
South Plattsburgh, NY Airborne Speedway promoter Mike
Perrotte has announced plans to introduce a DIRTcar Modified
Sportsman class as a weekly division in 2012.
The DIRT Sportsman cars are the same as the Ernies Discount
Tools Modifieds, except they will have 602 GM crate engines like
our full-fendered J&S Steel Sportsmen, Perrotte said.
This division will provide valuable experience for someone
who would like to race competitively in a Modified someday,
Perrotte added. They will use a harder compound right rear tire
than the Modifieds, which is a cost-saving measure. Teams will
typically go through some right rears as part of the learning curve
on setups.
DIRTcar Sportsman is the largest class in the Northeast. Nearly
all dirt tracks throughout the region, including Quebec and
Ontario, utilize them. Devils Bowl in West Haven, VT, a paved
facility like Airborne, also has a Modified Sportsman division with
the same rules.
The response has been overwhelming, Perrotte said. There
are at least 10 teams already forming and we havent even had our
2012 rules meeting yet. I anticipate about 75 percent of the
Modified Sportsman drivers will be new to Airborne.
The 2012 Airborne rules meeting for all divisions will be held at
the American Legion 1620 Quarry Road Plattsburgh Saturday,
November 27. Four-cylinder session (Noon-12:45 p.m.) -
Renegades and Sportsman (1-2 p.m.) Modifieds and Modified
Sportsman (2-3 p.m.).

tact the speedway office 518-

Thunder Road 2012 Season Passes Available Now
Thunder Road officials have announced that
season passes for the 1/4-mile speedway in Barre
are available now for the 2012 season with the
same prices as in 2011. Season passes make
great holiday gifts and can be purchased through
the Waterbury office.
Season pass prices remain at $199 for an adult
general admission pass for all events. Children
passes are $59 (ages 6 to 12), while gold season
passes are $259. The gold season passes reserve
the seat of your choice for all events in 2012. The
renewal deadline for 2011 gold season pass hold-
ers is January 1 to reserve the same seat. Season
passes intended for holiday gifts can be pur-
chased up to Thursday, December 15 to receive
them in time for Christmas.
Regular general admission prices will also
remain the same for the 2012 season and while
the schedule has not been announced, the season
is expected to again include 18 events. Thunder
Roads 53rd season at the Nations Site of
Excitement will be highlighted by several big
events including the 50th Peoples United Bank
Milk Bowl. The complete season schedule will
be announced soon.
To order a season pass contact the Thunder
Road office at (802) 244-6963, tb@acttour.com,
www.thunderroadspeedbowl.com or stop in at 7
Stowe St. in Waterbury.
ACT Teams Will Receive Over $100,000
in Point Fund Awards
The American Canadian Tour (ACT) announced
last week that the top teams of the US-based
ACT Tour, the Quebec based ACT Castrol
Series, and Thunder Road Intl Speedbowl will
receive in excess of $100,000 in championship
point fund awards at the season-ending ACT
banquets to be held in December, 2011 and
January, 2012.
Highest money earners are car owners Rick
Paya from the ACT US Tour and Patrick Laperle
from the ACT Castrol Series. They will each
receive year-end point fund checks of $10,000.
Both teams ran the full twelve (12) race series in
their respective areas.
Brian Hoar, now a record-setting eight (8) time
ACT Champion from Williston, brought home
the championship to Payas RPM team, and
Patrick Laperle, driving for his family team
located in St. Denis, QC, was a second time ACT
Castrol Series Champion.
Ford Racing contributed $11,000 to those
teams who elected to race the ACT-approved
Ford crate engine in 2011. Ten of the 17 Ford
teams registered with ACT collected Ford Blue
Oval Challenge point fund money. Wayne
Helliwell, Jr. won for the title for the second
straight year. Team owner, Bruce Bernhardt,
from Hudson, NH, will collect the $5,000 point
check, along with the Blue Oval Challenge Cup,
at the upcoming ACT Banquet of Champions.
ACT will pay out over $20,000 on behalf of
those competitors that participated at Thunder
Road in 2011. Over the 15-event battle for the
King of the Road championship, Montpeliers
David Pembroke narrowly beat out former multi-
time champion Phil Scott and Irish John
Donahue, from Graniteville. Pembroke will earn
point fund money of $5,000 for his 2011 effort.
In addition to the $101,720 to be paid in point
fund money, a record amount of combined purse
money was paid to ACT Late Model teams in
2011. There was $739,277 paid in purse money
to the two ACT series and ACT managed Thunder
Road.

A pole position, a little sunshine, a hole in a grille, a blistered right
front tire, rain showers, a one hour-15 minute red ag period, the on-
set of darkness, leading the most laps, a gutsy pit stop strategy and
two great race car drivers with huge egos highlighted NASCARs -
nal race of the year and decided the 2011 Sprint Cup race. At the line
it was Tony Stewart over Carl Edwards for the race and the title and
for the rst time ever in the long history of NASCAR racing, over
seven decades, it ended in a dead-even point tie with the champion
being decided by the most wins by a driver in the season. For either
driver it had to be a win to earn the championship. For Stewart it
was the rst owner-driver title since the late Alan Kulwicki did it in
1992, his 12th driving title and his third Sprint Cup championship.
Without question Stewart and Edwards have been the class of the
eld during the ten-race Chase and the outcome handed the France
family and NASCAR the greatest hype of any championship in stock
car history.
Johnny Sauter did everything he could to win the 2011 Camp-
ing World Truck Series championship, led a lap, led the most laps,
won the race but the title belonged to Austin Dillon after NASCAR
pulled the plug for rain with just 15 laps remaining in the Ford 200 at
Homestead Miami Speedway on Friday night. Now Im not a Johnny
Sauter fan by any stretch of the imagination. Sauter is a unk out
of the Sprint Cup Series, a unk-out from the Nationwide Series. I
dont like his no respect for his peers driving style nor his on-track
attitude but I have to ask do he get a fair shake on Friday? Did NA-
SCAR give him an all-out opportunity to win the truck title? Look-
ing at NASCARs history it has always made every effort to get a
race in- to give the fans their money worth- to give the competitors
every opportunity to settle things on the track.but Friday night the
sanctioning body pulled the plug on the race and on the champion-
ship before the trucks were hardly shutdown and all the drivers out
of their rides on pit road after the race was red agged. Absolutely no
effort was made to dry the track or to get the race in. A lot can happen
in fteen laps a lot can happen in just one lap.but we will never
know if Sauter would have hung on to win the race.if Austin Dil-
lon would have maintained his on track position..if a wreck would
have taken both contenders out.if..if. Ironically, on track cham-
pionship celebrations continued for close to an hour after the race
was called with nary a raindrop falling. Did Johnny Sauter get a fair
shake..did third place nisher James Buescher get a fair shake.
did Austin Dillon win the championship the way it would mean the
most- on track till the checkers? The answer is one big: NO.
Polesitter Brad Keselowski won Saturdays night Ford 300 Na-
tionwide Series nale at Homestead Miami Speedway but Roush
Fenway Racing had the better night winning two Nationwide Series
championships in one night. Keselowski held off furious charges
from new series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr. on the nal lap to
secure his fth victory of the season and the 17th of his career. Third
place nisher Carl Edwards clinched the owners championship for
Jack Roush, leading the most laps and nishing two positions ahead
of Denny Hamlins No 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, which entered
the race with a one point lead. Stenhouse, 24, clinched the Nation-
wide Series championship early in the race when the number of
cars retired from the race reached six on lap 28 of 200. At that point
Stenhouse was guaranteed the 37th-place he needed to lock up the
title. As it turned out, with the title in hand Stenhouse turned up the
wick as the race unfolded. What an effort, Champion, spotter Mike
Calinoff radioed to Stenhouse after Keselowski blocked a last-ditch
attempt at a pass.
Austin Dillon scrambled back to a 10th place nish after slip-
ping from 2nd to 15th after a Lap 96 restart to earn the Camping
World Truck Series championship in a rain shortened season nale
at Homestead-Miami Speedway Friday night. Dillon, a deserving
champion due to his patiently aggressive- respectful driving style,
became the rst driver in series history to win the rookie of the year
title in his rst full season and return his sophomore season to take
the championship. He became the youngest series champion at 21
with a six-point edge over runner-up Johnny Sauter. I remember my
rst championship with Dale Earnhardt, said team owner Richard
Childress, Dillons grandfather. I had the same feeling tonight watch-
ing my grandson. You cant go out of the truck series any better
than this, said Dillon, who will graduate to the Nationwide Series
with RCR next year.
New Hampshire Motor Speedway announced last week, plans for
the new Northeast Motorsports Museum at the Speedway. Fund rais-
ing efforts are under way for the project that will feature a state-of-
the art 20,000 square foot facility and include many forms of motor-
sports, including stock cars, vintage open-wheel cars, dragsters, and
motorcycles. The museum will display numerous cars on the rst
oor of the building. The second oor will house a library, memo-
rabilia collection that will include helmets and trophies, as well as
a theatre that will show videos of the regions motorsports history.
The Racing History Preservation Group and the Magic Mile jointly
announced the beginning of fund raising efforts to create the new
Northeast Motorsports Museum. The announcement was made by
Jerry Gappens, Excutitive Vice President and general manager of the
speedway, RHPG President Dick Berggren, New England fan favor-
ite and former Sprint Cup Series driver Ricky Craven.
Garage Garble
American Canadian Tour Late Model Tour, the Quebec based Act
Castrol Series and Thunder Road competitors will receive in excess
of $100,000 in championship point fund awards at the season end-
ing ACT banquets to be held in December, 2011 and January, 2012.
Highest money earners are car owners Rick Paya from the Act US
Tour and Patrick Laperle from the Act Castrol Series, who will garner
year-end point fund checks of $10,000 each. Brian Hoar, a record-
setting eight time ACT champion brought home the championship to
Payas Georgia, VT based RPM team. Laperle drove for his family
based team located in St. Denis, QC. In addition to the $101,720 to
be paid in point fund monies, ACT teams received a record amount
of $739,277 in combined purse money in 2011.
Camping World Truck Series veteran Ron Hornaday Jr has entered
into an agreement to drive for the rookie team Joe Denette Motor-
sports in the No 9 Chevrolet full time in 2012. Hornaday will be
teamed with veteran crew chief, Jeff Hensley for an all-out assault
for the 2012 series championship. Hornaday as a fourteen year com-
petitor in the series and has amassed four championships, 51 career
wins, 27 poles, 146 top-ves and 208 top-10s. Im very excited
for the opportunity to work with JDM next season, Hornaday said.
This is a young team and they have put a lot of the right people in
place to win races and contend for a championship in 2012. A spon-
sor for the effort is expected to be announced in the near future.
Thunder Road, dubbed the Nations Site of Excitement, will hold
2011 prices on season passes and general admission tickets for all
events in 2012. The Roads 53rd season is expected to again include
18 events. The 2012 schedule, expected to be released soon, will con-
clude with the 50th running of the Peoples United Bank Milk Bowl,
the toughest short track race in the country.
What Theyre Saying
I told my wife that if I cant win this thing (championship) . I
would be the best loser NASCAR ever had: Carl Edwards on nish-
ing second to Tony Stewart in the 2011 championship.
Next Lap
Bear Ridge Speedway will honor nine stock car champions on
Saturday, December 10 at their awards gala at the Lake Morley Inn in
Fairlee, VT. Most notable honoree of the night will be the Bond Auto
Parts DIRTcar Sportsman Modied champion Adam Pierson who
will take the stage to claim his seventh career Bear Ridge title. Pier-
son, at only 27 years old is knocking on the door of all-time Ridge
king Ervine Brother Eastman who has nine Ridge champions tro-
phies on his mantle. The banquet will put the wraps on the dirt tracks
44th season of intense mudslinging competition.
Thanks again for all the support and comments from all the fans
of Rumors, Ramblings & Racing. We will be going to our off-season
schedule of every other week until Daytona in February. And please
let all the publications know that RR&R is your rst choice on Mo-
torsports news.
