Activity on Cell Structure and Functions

Eseque, Adlea Yasmin G.

Complete the table below based on your previous readings.
Organelles Structure (sketch) Functions
The nucleus's role is to manage and
regulate the cell's functions, as well as
to carry genes, which are structures that
encode hereditary information. The
nucleus' principal duties are to store,
preserve, and assist the transcription
1. Nucleus and replication of the cell's DNA.
The primary role of cytoplasm is to
allow cells to retain turgidity, which
allows them to maintain their form.

2. Cytoplasm
Barriers and gateways are both
functions of cell membranes.

3. Cell Membrane
The major function of the rough
endoplasmic reticulum main function is
to serves a range of tasks.
The smooth endoplasmic reticulum's
primary function is to manufacture and
store lipids, such as cholesterol and
phospholipids.
4. Endoplasmic
Reticulum
Golgli bodies' major function is to
process and bundle proteins and lipid
molecules, particularly proteins
prepared for cell export.

5. Golgi Bodies
Mitochondria play a role in converting
the energy we get from food into energy
that the cell can use. It is also in charge
of producing ATP, the cell's energy
currency.

6. Mitochondria
The purpose of chloroplasts in the
photosynthetic process is to transform
light energy into relatively stable
chemical energy.

7. Chloroplast
Lysosomes disintegrate unwanted or
worn-out cell components and can be
employed to kill invading viruses and
bacteria.

8. Lysosome
Vacuoles serve in the maintenance of
water balance. Its role of vacuoles is to
handle waste products, which is to take
in waste materials as well as to dispose
of waste commodities.

9. Vacuole
10. Cytoskeleton The cytoskeleton assists cells in
maintaining their structure and internal
order.
Performance Task (graded): The cell that formed a tree
Create a family analogy of the cell organelles. List the members of your family representing each

of the major cell organelles. You can repeat a member of the family. Explain how each member you selected and
the specific cell organelle it represents relate with one another. Write your answer on the space provided below.

The cell membrane is similar to my family's father in that it regulates what enters and exits

the cell, just as the family's father controls what enters and exits the family's life. The nucleus

reminds me of my mother. The nucleus guards the DNA that regulates the cell, and the family's

existence is normally controlled by the mother. My sister and I are the nucleolus. The nucleolus

produces ribosomes, much like a daughter who enjoys doing crafts like crochet and other crafts.

Listed are single words which pertains to a part of the cell. Try to determine the organelle related to each word.

1. Cytosol – Cytoplasm

2. Lipids – Endoplasmic Reticulum

3. Command - Nucleus

4. Respiration - Mitochondria

5. Photosynthesis - Chloroplast
6. Modification – Endomembrane System

7. Stomach - Lysosomes

8. Storage – Vacuoles

9. Brain - Nucleus

10. Toxic - Lysosomes
