Title: “Working Together: The Impact of Parenting to the Academic Performance of the
Junior High School Students in Lucban, Quezon”
Respondents
The respondents of this study will be selected drawn randomly from the junior
high school students of the Banahaw View Academy (BVA), Casa del Niño Jesus de Lucban
(CNJL), Lucban Academy (LA), and Southern Luzon State University – Laboratory School
(SLSU-LS) in municipality of Lucban, Quezon. The researchers believe that these junior high
school students are already observant and matured enough to identify the parenting style they
encounter with their parents that’s why the researchers chose them to be the target of the study.
The researchers will use Slovin’s formula to determine the sample size for each participating
schools in Lucban, Quezon. Based from Essa (2021) slovin’s formula is used to calculate the
appropriate sample size from a population and it written as:
Where:
n = sample size
N = population size
e = margins of error
Table 1. The population and sample size gathered from the four (4) schools.
Sampling Procedure
The researcher will conduct a simple random sampling technique. They applied this
sampling technique to determine which students were experiencing an impact of a parenting to
their academic performance. According to Frost (n.d.) simple random sampling is a method
which researchers will select participants or respondents at random from a population, so that
everyone has an equal chance of being chosen. The researchers chose to use the random
technique because they want to avoid human bias from selecting their participants and they want
to know which parenting style are most used nowadays. Based from the total sample size, which
is 325, the researchers will randomly choose the students from each school. In BVA, only 27
junior high school students will be chosen from a total population of 146. For CNJL, only 32
junior high school students will be chosen from a total population of 172. While in LA, only 184
junior high school students will be chosen from a total population of 988. Lastly for SLSU, 82
junior high school students will be chosen from a total population of 439. Once the questionnaire
already approved by the researchers’ adviser, the researchers will immediately proceed to survey
the selected students to have detailed answers this study.
