Assessment 1: Self-introduction Video Recording (Individual) – 20%

The Scenario:

Your company has called for an internal Expression of Interest (EOI) for a senior role - Global Human Resource (HR)
Director. This role requires the senior leader to work closely with the regional HR business partners across regions in
Southeast Asia. The Global HR Director must be culturally competent and skillful when interacting with stakeholders
across the regions.
One of the first initiatives that the Global HR Director must roll out after being appointed is the Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion Programme. Considering cultural differences, managing diversity equitably and inclusively is one of the
strategic thrusts in achieving the company’s sustainability goals. As part of the EOI, interested candidates must submit
a 3-minute Introduction Video of themselves. Shortlisted candidates will go on to the next round of face-to-face
interview.

Assessment Description:
This assessment is designed to help you reflect on your individual personality and be more aware of how your personality
can affect your interaction in a diverse cultural and professional context.
You will take this opportunity to reflect on the results of your Self-Assessment Questionnaires (SAQs) based on the
‘Big Five’ Framework and ‘Global Mindset’ (Topic 3 and 2 respectively in the Unit Learning Management System).
You are expected to apply at least two high quality academic references i.e., peer-reviewed journal article at five
or less years to complete this assignment. The Introduction Video should answer the question, “How can you be a
suitable candidate for the Global HR Director role?” You must respond to this question using the ‘Big Five’
Framework and ‘Global Mindset’ in context to the described scenario; explaining what aspects of your personality is
suitable in fulfilling the requirements stated in the scenario brief. Your response should address aspects related to
cultural competency and what value your personality brings with you in fulfilling this role. It is essential that you integrate
professional and/or personal examples to relate to your profile and to support your explanation.
What you need to do:
1. Review Topics 1 to 3 and any other resources, recent research on cultural competence, personality and ‘Big
Five’ framework. You can look up recent peer-reviewed journal articles on the topic with the help of Murdoch’s
online library. Relevant research articles can also be accessed via “My Unit Reading”.
2. Take the SAQ ‘Big Five’ Test available from Topic 3 on LMS.
3. Take the SAQ ‘Global Mindset’ available from Topic 2 on LMS.
4. Reflect on the results from the ‘Big Five’ and ‘Global Mindset’ and conduct research related to ‘Big Five’ and
cultural competencies.
5. Identify aspects on how your personality can fulfil the requirements of the role and your suitability.
6. Think of your personal and professional experience and identify specific events/occurrences that can help you
support your case.
7. Prepare your one (1) page “speech” script of what you want to say in the Introduction Video. Use Font Type
Arial with Font Size 12 and a 1.0 Line Spacing.
8. Script your Introduction Video recording and ensure that it is concise meeting the given time limit.
9. The script will be submitted with your Introduction Video recording. All references, in-text and end-text
should be included by applying APA7 referencing. Note that you must have both types of references in the
script but may not need to include them in the Introduction Video.
10. Practice, practice, and practice using your script so that you are familiar with the content. Reading from the
script without rehearsing for your Introduction Video will not lead to a good grade.
11. Prepare a 3-minute (+/- 10% i.e., minimum 162 to maximum 198 seconds) video for the Self Introduction.
12. Ensure that the Introduction Video is unedited, uninterrupted, and delivered naturally, professionally, and
impressively since it will determine if you would be shortlisted for an interview.

The task will assess your ability to:


1. Critically analyse OBM issues and apply relevant and advanced knowledge of OBM theories/concepts to
address a practical topic in the workplace.
2. Bring in various OBM theories/concepts and structure evidence-based conclusions.
3. Verbally and digitally communicate your ideas effectively and professionally.

4. Display capability to think across cultures and contexts and integrate knowledge of sustainability issues such
as, Diversity and Inclusion into professional and personal practices.
