associated fittings:

 Areas of duct installation shall be barricaded with warning signs indicating

work to be performed at heights;
 Installation of hanger supports, ducts and accessories will be done from
the top of wide ducts in locations where a tower scaffold or mechanical
lifting platform cannot be used. Installation activities from the top of the
ducts will be done at locations with such very minimal accessibility due to
space congestion by crossing of pipe, duct or installations by other
disciplines;
 Hard boards or wooden sheets will be placed at the top of ducts for
equally distributing the bearing load to the hangers and supports while
installation;
 Procedure of working on top of ducts will be done using scaffolding
installed with screw jacks at the ends directly pointed to the wooden slab
below the duct directly on the area where working on top of duct is
required. Another alternative in some cases is to use the duct lifter to
support the base while somebody is working on top of the duct. Site
Engineer/ Supervisor shall ensure that the approve work procedure is
strictly followed during working on the top of ducts;
 Workers shall place wooden boards or plywood on top of the ducts. This
will serve as protection on the surface and not to step directly on the duct
but on the protection board to prevent any denting, deformation or
damage whatsoever during the activity;
 Prior to start working on the top of ducts, the Site Engineer / Supervisor
will conduct pre-start meetings to brief safe work practices for working at
locations with limited access. He will ensure that the workers are wearing
PPE and that enough lighting is provided for the work;
 Duct section or assembled sections will be lifted manually by means of
considering individual lifting capacity of 20kg and size of the ducts (i.e. a
duct of the weight of 50-60kg can be lifted by 3 workers). Weight
indication of each section will be shown on the duct label;
 Wheeled Aluminium tower scaffold will be used for supporting the duct
erection. Scaffold will be moved to the required location for erection.
Ducts will be erected from the top platform of the scaffold;
 Duct sections will be loaded manually on the lifting fork of the carriage
assembly of manlift. The lift will be moved to the location by rolling on its

Page 28 M-ANM-300000-CMAC-MST-000001 Rev. A

METHOD STATEMENT FOR INSTALLATION OF HVAC DUCT SYSTEM

tires and then positioned to the required side where the sections to be
erected;
 After transporting the materials, loading forks shall be kept in normal
position. Use the winch to crank forks up or down into desired position for
loading;
 Two sections of ducts will be assembled on floor to make a long duct if the
support distance is not sufficient for hanging one section;
 Where insulation is required, ducts should be insulated except 100mm
from joints prior to hanging. Joints insulation shall be made only after leak
test and /or as agreed by the Engineer;
 Turn the winch crank clockwise to elevate the duct upright and continue
until it reaches in the desired level. The duct section or assembled
segment of two or three sections will be installed from scissor lift and
aluminium scaffold located at the adjacent sides of the lift;
 Engage supports to duct and fasten lock nuts;
 The forks will be lowered after the installation. By turning the winch crank
in the opposite direction. The successive duct section/segment will be
lifted and installed in the similar manner;
 Open ends of installed ducts should be protected by covering with blue
plastic sheets. The blue sheets shall be clamped to the duct flanges with
G-Clamps in the same method of clamping;
 Arrangements for preventing wind impact on installed ducts in open areas
will be provided by means of tying nylon rope diagonally on trapeze
hangers or inserting wooden blocks between ducts and ceiling.
