Chapter 5

OP-AMP

Introduction
 definitin : Amplification is the process of
converting a quantity (current or voltage) from a
small amplitude to a large amplitude without
changing its form.
 OP-AMP (Operatinal amplifier) also has the
properties of an amplifier circuit.
 The OP-AMP has 2 inputs - inverted and non-
inverting - and one output, an ideal OP-AMP has
the following properties:
 The amplification factor (open loop) is infinity.
 The input impedance is infinity.
 Output impedance is 0

 Operational Amplifier
 Notation: OP-AMP
 The amplifier circuit capables to vary according to
the external coupling circuit
 Perform mathematical transformations such as
addition, subtraction, multiplication, division,
integral ... in similar computers
 The size is getting smaller

Notation

 Have 5 poles
 Usually provided two volt

 Approximately, dividing OP-AMP into 3 domains

 This element is made using integrated circuit (IC)
technology, and is mostly DIP

Equivalent circuit for OP-AMP

 Vi+ : Noninverting input

 Vi- : Inverting input
 V0 : output
 Vs+,- : source supply

Ideal OP-AMP

Linear OP-AMP model

 OP-AMP is biased in order to :

 -Vcc <u0<Vcc we hvae

Noninverting comparision circuit

 Refer volt Vref > 0 put at (-)

 Compare volt Ei put at (+) input
 When Ei > Vref then V0 = + Vsat
 When Ei < Vref then V0 = - Vsat

Inverting comparision circuit

 Refer volt Vref > 0 put at (+) input

 Compare volt Ei put at (-) input
 When Ei > Vref then V0 = - Vsat
 When Ei < Vref then V0 = + Vsat

Amplifier circuit with feedback

 Vin compared with V+ is the voltage on the

voltage division R4 - R2 so according to the
variation between the two voltage levels of Vout,
the feedback circuit has two comparison
thresholds, VH and VL.
