Assignment

Answer as brief as you can.

1. Cite at least three (3) soil chemical properties and state its importance to soil fertility.
Inorganic matters of soil- also had importance of soil fertility since it composed of rock which is
broken down into small particles of sand . We also need rock and sand to help our plant grow.
Organic matters in the soil - it is providing nutrients and habitat to organisms living in the soil ,
also binds soul particles into aggregats and improves the water holding capacity of the soil.
Collodial properties of the soil particles- states that it has an importance to soil fertility because
they are transformed from liquid into soft semisolid or solid mass by adding ang opposite
charge and also have ability to absorbed gases, liquid and solid from their suspension.
2. Why is the amount of clay and humus important in the component of soil? The
ammount of clay and humus is important in the compound if soil because humus and
clay ar3 very important for holding plant nutrients in the soil . Clays and humus particles
have a negative surface charge cations ar positively charged. Because opposited attracts
the clay and humus holds cations, and prevent them from being leached out of the soil
by water movement.
3. How does soil become acidic? Soil tend to become acidic as a result of ( 1) rain water
leaching away basic ions ( calcium , magnesium, potassium and sodium) (2) carbon
dioxide from decomposing organic matter and root respiration dissolving in soil watter
to from a weak organic acid. (3) formation of strong organic and inorganic acids , such us
nitric and sulfric acid , from decaying organic matter and oxidation of ammonium and
sulfur fertilizer.

4. How does lime application increase soil pH? As the CA ( and Mg) in 'aglime' dissolve in
soils , they displace the acidic hydrogen (H+) ions which then react with carbonate in the
limestone, ultimately raising soil ph.
