Hydrometeorological Station
Introduction:
To study and forecast weather patterns and water resources, numerous meteorological
and hydrological observations are made at a hydrometeorological station. In addition to
temperature and humidity, these data also take into account precipitation, wind direction and
speed, evaporation, and river flow. Accurate measurements are made possible by the frequent
installation of hydrometeorological stations in isolated locations with generally undisturbed
environments. They provide a variety of functions, such as predicting the weather,
agricultural planning, management of water resources and climatological study.

The usual tools for meteorological measurements include thermometers, rain gauges,
and anemometers. River velocity, groundwater levels, and soil quality are examples of
hydrological measurements. A variety of activities, including agriculture, management of
water resources, and climatology, are supported by the data gathered at hydrometeorological
stations, which help us understand and anticipate weather patterns and water resources.
Decisions on public safety and disaster preparedness may also be informed by the data.

The objectives of this lab exercise are to understand the standard structure of a
hydrometeorological station, as well as the factors to be taken into account when establishing
a hydrometeorological station in a specific location, and the appropriate utilization of
different hydrological and meteorological equipment required in a hydrometeorological
station. Additionally, this activity intends to create the typical hydrometeorological station
using Google SketchUp and AutoCAD, as advised by PCARRD.

Objectives:
1. To be able to know the necessary instruments or types of equipments needed in a
hydrometeorological station.
2. To be able to know and familiarize the standard layout of a hydrometeorological station.
3. To be able to know the considerations in setting-up a hydrometeorological station in a given
area.
i. Area
ii. Location
iii. Environment
iv. Spacing and orientations of the weather instruments
4. To layout the standard hydrometeorological station (recommended by PCARRD) using
Google SketchUp/ AutoCAD with the following views:
i. Perspective View
ii. Side Elevations
iii. Floor plan
iv. Detailed designs
a) Instruments shelter (Thermometer Screen)
b) Evaporation pan
c) Non-recording and recording raingauge
e) Observation well
f.)Campbell Stokes
g.) Anemometer
h.)Water tank
Materials Used:
 AutoCAD
 SketchUp
Methodology:
1. Design your hydrometeorological/agromet station.
2. Draw your design 2D to AutoCad.
3. Import AutoCAD to SketchUp to make the design in 3D.

Conclusion:

The following instruments are available in this hydrometeorological station for the
collection of hydrometeorological data: Instruments shelter (Thermometer Screen),
non-recording and recording rain gauge, observation well, evaporation pan, Campbell
Stokes, Anemometer, and Water tank.

Designing hydrometeorological stations has taught us how to create the necessary tools
to get the exact data needed. A significant element in collecting thorough and accurate
hydrometeorological and flow data that is required for evaluating hydrometeorological risk
and decision-making in water resources policy and management is the establishment of a
network of hydrometeorological stations.
