axiological - values
ontological - nature of the research (subjective - quali, objective - quanti)
epistemological - relationship of the researcher to the research (interaction,
independent)
methodological - method/process used (deductive, inductive)
rhetorical - language (formal, informal)

Types of qualitative research

1. Case study- is a research strategy and an empirical inquiry that investigates a

phenomenon within its real-life context.
2. Ethnographic research- observes and/or interact with a study's participants in
their real-life environment.
3. Phenomenology- focuses on the commonality of a lived experience within a
particular group.
4. Content and discourse analysis- involves in dephth engagement with content-
words images, film, etc. or discourse. (content = meaning, discourse = language)
5. historical analysis - a method of examination of evidence in coming to an
udnerstanding of the past.
6. the grounded theory system - studies "the interrelationship between meaning in
the perception of the subjects and their action.

advantages or strength of qualitative research

1. adopts a naturalistic approach to it subject matter

2. promotes full understanding of human behavior and personality traits
3. it is instrumental for positive societal changes
4. it engenders respect for people's individuality
5. it is a way of understanding and interpreting social interactions
6. It increases interest to the researcher as it includes his/her experience.
7. Increases interest to the researcher as it includes his/her experience/ bg
knowledge

Disadvantages or weaknesses

1. It involves a lot of researcher's subjectivity in data analysis.

2. It is hard to know the validity and reliability of the data.
3. It yields an open-ended questions that requires long-time analysis.
4. It is time-consuming.
5. It involves several processes which depends on researcher's views and
interpretations (silverman 2017).
