The content must include a business leader demonstrating a transformational leadership and two other
business leaders demonstrating different leadership styles. In doing this the student should explore the
topic and demonstrate their knowledge & understanding through thorough & appropriate research.

Consider how you can best integrate and apply your reading and research on leadership styles and their
impact on the organisation and critically evaluate their effectiveness. The depth and breadth of your

Description of the assessment, the task/topic
This is an essay question that requires a focus on three different leadership styles and the
impact that the behaviour/leadership style has on an organisation and its people.

Students need to identify three different business leaders and demonstrate an understanding
of the effectiveness of the different styles they have selected.

Students need to evaluate how each style impacts the organisation in which they are applied.

Students need to critically comment on how the different styles are utilized

Students should demonstrate an awareness of and the importance of organisational cultures
and processes and be able to apply their knowledge.

Students should demonstrate an awareness of the external environment in which the


organisation operates and the impact this has on leaders and followers.

The essay requires the knowledge of the leadership styles to be applied rather than simply
presenting theoretical principles.

This is an essay specifically about business leaders and NOT political, military, religious
leaders etc

To complete this task successfully students will need to undertake secondary research using
relevant data from appropriate sources, (academic texts, prominent business texts, journal
articles and news stories). You must use this information to justify your points and apply
appropriate theories and models.

There must be a minimum of twelve sources of which eight must be academic.
