What is It

Japanese Theater
In the history of Japan, Kabuki’s origin began in the Edo period where

ly
it became famous in the lower class rather than in the higher-class society.
The love for Kabuki Theater among the Japanese started in1603 with the first

performance of Okuni, a shrine dancer from Kyoto wherein the performance is
a combination of religious and folk dance.

m
Kabuki comprises of three Japanese characters where “ka” means

ea
songs, “bu” means dance, and “ki” means skill.

tT
Kabuki play is more entertaining because of its colorful and amazing
make-ups, movements, skills and other spectacular effects and to its unique

en
and unrevealing characters on stage. The performers are all male in 17th
century because women were banned from performing because they were
attached to the idea of prostitution and male spectators were attracted to most

female performers.
