PISA RESULT

PHILIPPINES POOR PISA RESULT, DEPED’S BIG WAKE-UP CALL

The Philippines ranked 77th out of 81 countries globally with a score of 353 on the
Program for International Students Assessment test.

The score of PISA was calculated last December 2023. Conducted on each countries
school’s globally. According to Ferdinand Bong Bong Marcos Jr., he directed the
Department of Education to work hard on teaching students, to improve the student’s
learning competency and the country’s Education level on PISA.

On the other hand Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte said that poor PISA result in
the Philippines revealed an “uncomfortable truth” about the Philippines education. VP
Sara Duterte decided to have a CATCH-UP DAY to allow students to improve their
reading skills, for the upcoming PISA on November 2024.

Education Undersecretary Gina Goong said she expects the improvement of the
learner’s performance under the MATATAG curriculum to improve the teacher’s
professional development and as school leaders.

In the Presidential Press briefer Daphne Oseña Paez said that the latest PISA test
showed that there are more than 75% of the PISA takers in the Philippines “scored
below the minimum level of learning abilities in Mathematics, Reading and Science”’

Meanwhile Singapore ranked 1st globally in PISA with a score of 560 which stands that
most of the students on Singapore has the learning competency that most of the
country globally desire.
