ENGAGE

A. As a review, the teacher will let the students give a short recap of the last discussion.
B. The teacher will conduct a motivational activity entitled “Guessing Game”. The teacher will post or
plug a picture with some twist, student will guess what the picture is - in relation to the topic which
is genetic variation. Those students who will get the correct answer will get incentives.
IV. PROCEDURE

Answer:
1. CASHARK
2. CRAWLLA
3. DUCKHORSE
4. HORSHARK
5. ELEDUCK

EXPLORE

The teacher will give an activity to the students that can help them to start to wonder about the
topic and to experience hands-on learning.
Activity: "Gene Swap"
Objective: To help students understand the concept of genetic recombination in a brief and
interactive way.

Materials Needed: - Colored stickers or sticky notes (two different colors)

- Timer or stopwatch (optional)
Instructions:1. Prepare Gene Stickers:
- Create sets of colored stickers or sticky notes. Each set represents a pair of alleles
(genes). Use two different colors to differentiate the alleles.
2. Distribute Stickers:
- Give each student one red and one blue sticker (alleles) and have them attach the
stickers to their clothing.
3. Explain Genetic Recombination:
- Explain that genetic recombination is like a "gene swap" where alleles from
different parents come together to create unique offspring.
4. "Gene Swap" Countdown:
- If you have a timer or stopwatch, set it for 2 minutes.
5. "Gene Swap" Activity:
- Instruct students to find a partner (another student) and stand face to face.
6. "Gene Swap" Instructions:
- Tell students they have 2 minutes to swap one sticker (allele) with their partner.
They can choose either their red or blue sticker to swap.
- The goal is to create "offspring" with a new combination of alleles.
7. Swap and Pair Up: - As the timer starts, students quickly swap one sticker with their
partner and pair up to see the "offspring."
8. Discussion: Ask students to observe their "offspring" and discuss how this activity
illustrates genetic recombination.
Discussion Questions:
1. How did you create unique "offspring" by swapping alleles?
2. What does this activity teach you about genetic recombination?
3. Why is genetic recombination important in genetics and evolution?

This quick "Gene Swap" activity provides a hands-on illustration of genetic recombination and can
be completed in just 2 minutes. It's a fun way to introduce the concept and engage students in a
short, interactive experience.

EXPLAIN
The teacher will introduce the topic. For further understanding, teacher present a short video clip
related to genetic variation. As the presentation goes on, student must take notes and attentively
listening for preparation to the next activity

Activity 1. Select me!

They will be group into 2, they will select from the paper given by the facilitator. Each group
must have a representative to answer the question.

Questions: G1: What is the role of genetic variation in evolution?

Key points: Since Genetic variations alter gene activity or protein function can introduce
different traits in an organism. If a trait is advantageous and helps the individual survive and
reproduce, the genetic variation is more likely to be passed to the next generation (a process
known as natural selection).
G2: What is the role of genetic variation in adaptation?
Key points: Genetic variation is advantageous to a population because it enables some
individuals to adapt to the environment while maintaining the survival of the population

Teacher will add ideas and clarify any misconceptions and continue the discussion.
 Teacher will highlight the main sources or causes of Mutation, its type and effects.
