I took up the river road as hard as I could put. By and by I begin to hear guns a good
ways off. When I came in sight of the log store and the woodpile where the steamboats
lands I worked along under the trees and brush till I got to a good place, and then I climb
up into the forks of a cottonwood that was out of reach, and watched. There was a wood-
rank four foot high a little ways in front of the tree, and first I was going to hide behind
that; but maybe it was luckier I didn’t.

Points to remember:
1. Use action verb and transitional expressions. A story is built around people doing
things.
2. Your paragraph/s is/are characterized by words that show action and words that show
sequence,
3. Descriptive details in narrative paragraph are essential to a good story. Details help
readers to connect to the world the author envision.
4. Choose the right words for their meaning and use specific expression.
5. Be guided by the sample narrative paragraph above.

Task VII : Developing Paragraph Using Process Analysis

Preparatory phase:
1. Select an activity or a recipe that you know very well. You cannot teach
someone of something you do not have the knowledge about.
2. Understand all the details of “how to.”
3. Decide the order you will use to explain how this activity/recipe is done.
Writing phase:
1. Tell your reader why the topic is important.
2. The main idea may be a summary of the process. Don’t forget to tell your
reader what you will be teaching how to do.
3. Tell them what they need to have or to prepare (e.g. ingredients/equipment).
4. Give details on the exact order your reader will need to follow in order to
complete the activity. Use words that reflect time order, location, and
relationships between the ingredients ore components. You will need to use
prepositions pretty well here, or your reader will get confused.
5. End your paragraph by going back to your main idea and restating it.
6. Decide for a very catchy title for your paragraph.
