B. Review/Recall
Previous topic: Inverse, Converse and Contrapositive of an if-then statement.
C. Motivation
To start of I have picture here. Can you tell me what do you see?
Activity 1: TELL ME WHY?

1.

2. 7,9,11,13,_?

3.

4.

5.

D. Presentation
How did you find the activity? What did you notice? Did you find out that your conclusions has its
own reasons?
Let Sing! Just Give me A Reason
Just give me a reason
Just a little bit's enough
Just a second, we're not broken, just bent
And we can learn to love again
It's in the stars
It's been written in the scars on our hearts
We're not broken, just bent
And we can learn to love again
That has something to do with our topic for today which is all about Inductive and Deductive
Reasoning.
E. Discussion
INDUCTIVE REASONING
Illustrative Examples :
1. Study and determine the next figure.

2. Rachelle, a math challenger is good in mathematics. Joan, Josh, and Gab who are also math
challengers are good in mathematics. Therefore, all math challengers are good in mathematics.

3. My last year Math teacher is awesome. My Math teacher of this year is awesome. Therefore,
all Math teacher is awesome.
Based on the given example, what can you say about inductive reasoning?

Inductive reasoning gathers specific information, usually through observation and measurement,
formulate conjecture/s, then draw generalization or conclusion based on the carefully gathered
information.

Now, let us move on with the other type of reasonings.

DEDUCTIVE REASONING
Illustrative Examples:

1. All mathematics challenge contestants are good in mathematics. Jim, Jane and Jelian are math
challenge contestants. Therefore, Jim, Jane and Jelian are good in mathematics.
2. Filipinos are hospitable. Ms. Klay is a Filipino. Therefore, she is hospitable.
3. Smoking can cause cancer. Hipolito is smoking. Therefore, he can have cancer.
4. Right angles measure 90°. ∠𝐴 is a right angle. Therefore, ∠𝐴 measures 90°.

Based on the given example, what can you say about deductive reasoning?
Deductive reasoning uses acceptable facts, proven theorem as proof to draw a specific case or
situation.

F. Application
Activity 2: Think-Pair-Share

Directions: With your partner, write 1 example of Inductive reasoning and 1 example of deductive
reasoning based on real life scenario.

G. Generalization
The teacher will ask the students to generalize the topic based on what they have
discussed.
Can you differentiate now what is inductive reasoning and deductive reasoning?
Directions: Choose phrases from the list inside the box. Put the appropriate phrases in each column
to differentiate between inductive and deductive reasoning.
