SELF-ASSESSMENT OF LEADERSHIP, COLLABORATION, AND
ETHICS

Section 1: Leadership and Collaboration Experience

Three years ago, while serving as the marketing manager at ABC Laboratories Inc.'s
si

Houston branch, I led a team of eleven members tasked with marketing a new influenza
As

drug. Employing a democratic leadership style, I encouraged active participation from

team members, fostering collaboration across various departments, including sales,
finance, and research and development. Our decision-making process integrated
ss

analytical and behavioral styles, ensuring thorough data analysis and consultation with
team members, ultimately contributing to the project's success. Communication within
la

the team was characterized by assertiveness and an open-door policy, promoting

transparency and building team confidence.

Effective collaboration was further strengthened by implementing a team-based reward

system, aligning incentives with collective goals. While this approach initially faced
in

resistance, it was overcome through individual discussions, workshops, mentoring, and

nl

training sessions. This experience underscored the importance of understanding team

dynamics and ensuring active involvement in achieving project objectives.

Section 2: Ethics Experience

As a healthcare executive, I encountered ethical challenges related to a new influenza

drug priced beyond the means of the majority of those affected. Ethical principles such
as justice and non-maleficence clashed with project objectives. I utilized the LEADS
framework to address this and established a committee to tackle the issue. By
outsourcing research and development and exploring cost-effective alternatives, we
reduced the drug's price, aligning it with ethical principles and ensuring affordability for
the target audience.

Conclusion

Leadership, decision-making, communication, collaboration, and ethics are fundamental

om
to effective team management. Motivation and ethical considerations are essential for
fulfilling a leader's responsibilities to the team and organizational stakeholders. Adhering

t.c
to a defined ethical framework sets an example for the team and the broader
organization, emphasizing the importance of ethical decision-making.
