SELF-ASSESSMENT OF LEADERSHIP, COLLABORATION, AND ETHICS
PX
A leader plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration and building trust among team members,
which in turn cultivates interdependence and supports the achievement of organizational goals.
Collaboration within a team is essential for success. This self-assessment is divided into two
sections: the first part examines leadership, leadership styles, decision-making styles,
SF

communication methods, and the significance of collaboration, while the second part evaluates
the importance of ethics, both framed as responses to a questionnaire provided by Western
Medical Enterprises.

Section 1: Leadership and Collaboration Experience

R

In my previous role as the marketing manager at ABC Laboratories Inc.'s Houston branch three
years ago, I led a team of eleven members in marketing a new influenza drug. I employed a
U

democratic leadership style, encouraging active participation from team members and fostering
collaboration across departments such as sales, finance, and research and development.
Decision-making involved both analytical and behavioral styles, ensuring thorough data analysis

and team consultation, which significantly contributed to the project's success. Communication
was characterized by assertiveness and an open-door policy, promoting transparency and

this approach fostered a sense of unity, which was addressed through one-on-one discussions,
workshops, mentoring, and training. This experience highlighted the importance of
understanding team dynamics and ensuring active involvement in achieving project objectives.

Section 2: Ethics Experience

As a healthcare executive, I encountered ethical challenges related to a new influenza drug

priced beyond the means of the majority affected. Ethical principles such as justice and
non-maleficence conflicted with project objectives. Utilizing the LEADS framework, I established
a committee to address the issue. By outsourcing research and development and employing

cost-effective alternatives, we were able to reduce the drug's price, aligning with ethical
principles and ensuring affordability for the target audience.

Conclusion

o
Leadership, decision-making, communication, collaboration, and ethics are fundamental

aspects of effective team management. Both motivation and ethical considerations are equally
essential for a leader's responsibility to both the team and organizational stakeholders.
Adherence to a defined ethical framework sets an example for the team and the broader
PX
organization, emphasizing the importance of ethical decision-making.
