CAREER LIFE CONNECTIONS 12

MY CAPSTONE PROJECT SMART GOAL

Your SMART goal MUST relate to post-graduation/career plans or a passion or interest. You must choose
something that you can accomplish by the end of the semester to showcase in your Capstone presentation.
Your smart goal CANNOT be a given (e.g. get good grades, apply to post-secondary). It must be something
you have never done, and you are NOT doing for credit in a class.
Remember that your goal must be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. You also need to be
able to provide evidence of all steps you took to accomplish the goal and present it at the Capstone
Presentation. Refer to the SMART goal ideas document. Submit this digitally on Teams.

1. VERIFY THAT YOUR GOAL IS A SMART GOAL

A. Specific: What exactly will you accomplish? E.g. I would like to learn basic Japanese.
Having completed my Level 1 Construction Electrician trade, I want to fix my community church’s confession
light for the upcoming December festivities. I will do this by installing a more visible, safe, and user-friendly
light fixture.
B. Measurable: How will you know when you have reached this goal? E.g I will track my progress by using the
Duolingo app and feel confident having basic conversations in Japanese.
Since there are 2 rooms that need the light installation, I will have completed my goal when both lights are
installed and functional. The lights should also be more visible and vibrant compared to the pre-existing ones.
C. Achievable: Is achieving this goal realistic with effort and commitment? Do you have the resources to
achieve this goal? If not, how will you get them? Write down all steps below that you will need to achieve
this goal under the Action Plan heading. E.g. 1. I will download the free app Duolingo on to my phone. 2. I
will make a schedule to remind me to practice etc.
1. I will purchase the necessary supplies needed.
2. I will volunteer 2 hours of my time every weekend to get the job done.
3. I will work on one room first and get it approved by the clergyman before moving on to the next one.
ACTION PLAN. HERE ARE THE STEPS I WILL NEED TO TAKE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL BY JANUARY 8:
FIRST NAME: Ricashae LAST NAME: Santos

1. I will consult with the pastor to know any relevant information about the structure of the electricity
connections. This includes knowing where the breaker is and communicating any expectations for the finished
installment.
2. I will purchase any necessary supplies at Rona and buy the new light fixture at Home Depot.
3. I will start investigating the pre-existing lights and switches to ensure that it is not faulty. I will also be able
to gauge how and where the new light will be installed.
4. I will work on one room first and let the pastor decide if I should do the same for the other room.
5. Inspect the final installation and ensure that it is safe and durable.
D. Relevant: Why is this goal significant to your life? How does it connect to your post-graduation/career
plans or passion/interest? E.g. I want to learn Japanese so I can travel to Japan to teach English.
I want to pursue Electrical Engineering post-secondary. I believe that by being able to help my community by
gaining my level 1 license, I will be able to take steps in gaining experience in the field, thus being of service to
the people around me.
E. Timely: When will you achieve this goal? E.g. I will achieve my goal by January 8, 2024.
I should have bought all the necessary materials by October 22, 2023. I will finish the first room by November
12 and the second on December 3. This leaves me with ample time to troubleshoot if necessary.

2. NOW COMBINE YOUR ANSWERS FROM ABOVE TO MAKE A SMART GOAL! E.g. Since I want to teach
English in Japan in the future, I will learn basic Japanese and feel confident having simple conversations
from now until January 8, 2024, by following a schedule to practice the language using the Duolingo App.
SMART GOAL:
Being a certified Level 1 electrician, I will install a more visible confession light in my church’s 2 confessional
rooms. I will do this by requiring the necessary materials and inspecting the pre-existing wiring system. With
that, I will decide the most efficient way to install the light. I will make sure that it meets the Canadian
Electrical Code to fulfill the safety of the install. I will volunteer 2 hours every weekend from now until
December 12 since the lights will be frequently used during the Christmas season.
3. WHAT EVIDENCE WILL YOU USE TO PROVE YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR GOAL? E.g. I will take
screenshots of my progress throughout Duolingo and submit my practice schedule. I will also make a
time-lapse video of my time on Duolingo and speak some Japanese during my Capstone Presentation.
I will take pictures of my time working on the lights and include receipts of the materials bought. With consent,
I will also take screenshots of conversations regarding the times I will be coming to the church to work. During
the Christmas season, I will take a video of the light being used by the community. I will also use the pastor to
be my reference as I apply to post-secondary institutions.
