Designing Learning
Environment in the New
Normal
Home Learning Environment
Education must continue. In this
time of pandemic, learners stayed at home to be
safe from Covid-19. But this would not be a
hindrance to education. That is why, home
replaces school as the learning environment. For
me this picture is a comfortable space for
learning. It is well-ventilated, well-lighted, its
space promotes meaningful learning
experiences. Parents should find a dedicated
space for their children for them to be
comfortable while learning. According to study,
students who study in a positive learning
environment shown to be more active,
motivated, engaged and have a higher learning

Classroom Learning Environment
We cannot expect learners to
succeed if the classroom is not conducive
for learning. Learners must feel safe both
mentally and physically. As to the picture, I
can say that this is a conducive classroom
for learning as well as the students can feel
safe while learning. Learners must be
involved in the class not just a mere listener.
Learning by doing, this is a 21st century
learner and it will happen if the classroom is
a learner-centered learning environment. As
I can see in the picture, it is well ventilated,
spacious and students can really learn if it is
the kind of classroom every school has.
Classroom plays a vital role in learning it

Differentiate a Classroom
Learning Environment
from a Home Learning
Environment
Home learning environment take the place of classroom learning
environment in this time of pandemic but this is just temporary. We should be
hopeful that everything will be back to normal. A dedicated space in the
home for a child is important to their development especially now that there
is pandemic and learners must stay at home. But this virus is not a hindrance
to education that is why there is home. A good home learning environment
encourages children and young people to have positive attitudes to learning.
While a classroom learning environment, Research has shown that an
engaged learning environment increases students' attention and focus,
promotes meaningful learning experiences, encourages higher levels of
student performance, and motivates students to practice higher-level critical
thinking skills. (https://www.theschoolinrosevalley.org/engaged-learning-

ACTIVITY 1
Activity: Write an Academic Problem-Identification Statement for Your Student
1. Choose a student you work with that has 1 or more significant academic challenges requiring a Classroom
Intervention Plan. Answer these questions regarding your student:
a. Academic Task. What specific academic task is the greatest academic challenge for this student.
Upon checking the retrieved activity sheets and modules , I noticed
that one of my student is poor in Reading Comprehension. His
answers and essays are unfit to the questions given.
b. Current Performance . How does your student currently perform on this task?
Well, I can really say that on this task which is the reading
comprehension this student is currently performing poorly because
he cannot comprehend what he was reading.
c. Expected Performance. What level of performance would you expect on this task from a typical/average
student? For me, since the student is in Grade 9 I expected that he can really
read comprehensively and can figure out what he is reading and able
to answer the questions correctly and write essay if not that good but
at least it is appropriate to what is being asked.
Activity 2
2. Write a 3-part Problem-Identification Statement. Use this organizer to rewrite your
student’s academic problem in the form of a 3-part Problem ID statement. For examples,
see hand-out.

REFLECTION
Despite of the overwhelming impact of Covid-19 to education. We, the education front
liners risked ourselves to continue education. We knew that the virus is there but we never stop.
Because we are dedicated, committed and passionate to our calling, our profession as teachers. Our
school, Pili National High School is composed of three barangays namely: Barangay Pili, Can-aga, and
Karihatag. In barangay Karihatag we risked our life just to deliver the modules to our learners. We rode
on a pump boat if there is heavy rains because the road is too risky for the motor vehicles and during
typhoon and big waves are waving, we don’t have a choice but to deliver the modules even if it is too
risky to ride on a motorcycle. This is our life!
This training Designing Learning: From Module Writing to Effective Learning helps us to
refresh our ideas on how we are going to improve our teaching especially now in these trying times.
Since classroom is being replaced by home, it very important that parents should dedicate a space for
their child’s learning. It should be conducive and comfortable. But we cannot expect that parents are all
knowledgeable on this matter that is why, we are here teachers to monitor the progress of the student
particularly in answering their modules. By doing home visitation, we can monitor and give feedback
not only to the student but also to the parent on what they are going to do, or their part on the learning
process.
Teaching during the pandemic is not an easy task but if we love our job we will be able to
conquer all the obstacles that may come along the way. This endeavor is possible if we are motivated,
dedicated and committed to our profession. We may felt tired but will never stop and surrender. This is
teaching profession it is our vocation!
