The Lyons New Opportunities Nursing Scholarship

To Judy Molina:

This correspondence is in regard to Brooke Chlarson, a University of Arizona Bachelor of

Science nursing student graduating Spring 2024. I am honored to write this letter of
recommendation for Brooke, an excellent candidate for The Lyons New Opportunities Nursing
Scholarship for BSN students. I had the pleasure to work with Brooke during this spring 2023
semester as she was a clinical and didactic student in NURS 366 “Acute and Chronic Illness
Management”.

Ms. Chlarson demonstrated a strong work ethic with professionalism, competency,

accountability, and leadership during the pediatric course and clinical rotation at Tucson Medical
Center. Brooke was highly motivated and enthusiastic when providing best practices to infants
and children. The Pediatric emergency room staff noticed immediately Brooke’s desire to learn
and assist in any situation. The Pediatric staff asked Brooke to apply for a position in the
Pediatric emergency department. Brooke demonstrated a distinguished level of scholarship,
integrity, leadership, and service to others. Brooke arrived early to class and clinical every day as
well as submitted assignments above average. Brooke demonstrated strong interpersonal
communication skills with the parents as well as the children. She was not afraid to ask questions
or offer suggestions to faculty or healthcare professionals.

Brooke is driven and accepts challenges, always wanting to apply knowledge from course as she
made herself available to staff and peers when own work was complete. Brooke assisted a peer
with multiple medications for a child with a gastrostomy tube, volunteered to hold a young child
during a nasal gastric tube placement, and learned to feed an infant with a cleft lip and cleft
palate. Ms. Chlarson never complains and accepts constructive feedback.

Ms. Chlarson’s passion to succeed in the highly competitive rigorous nursing program at the
University of Arizona is to be commended. Brooke has a no quit attitude. The University of
Arizona, College of Nursing has prepared Brooke with a strong work ethic to succeed in a fast-
paced environment and learn at the next level. Brooke indicates a strong passion to serve our
community and is ready for the challenge of becoming a registered nurse. Without hesitation, I
highly recommend Brooke Chlarson for the Lyons New Opportunities Nursing Scholarship.
Brooke meets all criteria as a worthy candidate for this merit award.
