Physical fitness Wellness and Lifestyle

➢ PHYSICAL FITNESS

Fitness can be defined as According to Webster Encyclopedia−“It is the ability

of a person to do daily routine work without fatigue; moreover to participate
in playful activities and still reserves enough capacity to meet any emergency.”

Physical fitness is made up of 11 parts - 6 of them health related and 5 skill

related. All of the parts are important to good performance in physical activity,
including sports. But the 6 are referred to as contributing to health-related
physical fitness because scientists in kinesiology have shown that they can
reduce your risk of chronic disease and promote good health and wellness.
These parts of fitness are body composition, cardiorespiratory
endurance, flexibility, muscular endurance and muscular strength. They also
help you function effectively in daily activities.
As the name implies, skill-related physical fitness components help you
perform well in sports and other activities that require motor skills. These 5
parts of physical fitness are also linked to health but less so than the health-
related components they are listed ahead: balance, agility, coordination, speed
and reaction time.
➢ WELLNESS

Wellness is different from healthcare. Our

healthcare systems use a pathogenic and
reactive approach, focused on causes,
consequences, diagnosis and treatment of
diseases and injuries. In contrast, wellness is
a salutogenic and proactive approach, focused
on prevention, healthy lifestyles and the
pursuit of optimal wellbeing. Ultimately, a
solid foundation for wellness helps us prevent
and overcome disease, both at present and in
the future. Difference between Wellness and Well-being and Happiness

Wellness is about more than just physical health. Most models of wellness include at least six dimensions:
Physical (Nourishing a healthy body through exercise); Mental (Engaging the world through learning and art);
Emotional (Being aware of expressing and understanding feelings); Spiritual (Searching for meaning and
higher purpose in human existence); Social (Connecting and engaging with others in meaningful ways);
Environmental (Fostering positive interrelationships between planetary health and human action).
