PRESENT SIMPLE TO BE
POSITIVE: S + Verb to be (am, is, are) + C

We used the verb to be:


Ex:
-when we describe
• I am / I’m from Argentina
someone of something.
• You are / you’re confused
-to talk about age.
• She is / she’s married.

NEGATIVE: S + Verb to be (am, is, are) + NOT + C

Ex:
• I am not / I’m not happy.
• We are not / we aren’t from Spain.
• He is / he isn’t artist.

QUESTIONS: wh-h + verb to be + S + C


In question, we put AM,
Ex: IS, ARE before I, YOU,
• Am I late? HE, SHE, IT, WE THEY.
• Are you French?
• Is she tired?

SHORT ANSWERS: Yes/no + ,S + am, is, are/ am not, isn’t, aren’t

Ex:
• Yes, I am / No, I’m not
• Yes, you are / no, we aren’t
• Yes, it is / no, she isn’t

QUESTIONS WITH OTHER VERBS: wh-h + Do/does + S + verb + C
