V. Teaching-Learning
Activities TEACHERS ACTIVITY STUDENTS ACTIVITY

In our previous lesson, we learned how

to apply Ohm’s Law for every current
that passes through a load. Ohm’s law
is applicable within a circuit at home.
Meaning, the amount of voltage,
current and resistance, could be
determined when electrical devices are
working, functioning at home. Also,
these devices need a closed loop from
the voltage source for the electrical
charges to flow in a conducting wire.

Now, let us have an activity called

“Familiarizing Electric Circuit” to
recall the topic about Ohm’s Law. I
need 4 students to answer this activity.
Anyone who would like to volunteer? If
none I will select randomly using the
Microsoft word application to answer
the activity.

Directions: Label the parts of a basic

electrical circuit within 2 minutes. Write
your answers on the illustration posted
on the board.

Good job students you did well!

This illustration shows the components

of a basic electrical circuit. A basic
electric circuit is made up of an energy
source, conductors, switch, and load.
The electric power sources can be AC
or DC. Conductors are electric wires.
The switch opens and closes the
electric circuit. Load refers to electrical
components, for example, a bulb.

Before we proceed to our lesson

proper, let us have an energizer first.
This is called the “Squid Game” is
everybody familiar of this game? If
none this game is based on the movie
from South Korea entitled Squid Game.
From our energizer/activity what shape
do you think represents a circuit and Circle ma’am. Because it
why? Anyone who wants to answer? sounds like circuit. And the
circuit is circular.
Yes! That’s correct. The circuit is a
circular path that electricity flows
through. In short circuit is a circle of
electricity.

Can you explain why circuit is a circle A current flow just likes in a
of electricity? complete circle. Current in a
circuit flows in a circular path of
a closed circuit.
That’s true. Circuit comes from the
word circle. The circle doesn’t have any
spaces or gaps with it. Just like the
current it will flow to close circuit not in
open circuit.

Very good students. Now let us move

on.

“Identifying Circuit Connection at

Home”. The same group earlier but I
will list your group in a piece of paper
and then I will draw and select which
group will answer situation no. 1 and in
situation no. 2. The select one person
from your group to share their answers
in front.

Directions: The pictures below show

common circuit connection at home.
Describe how these appliances and
light bulbs are connected at home.
Write your answers on a sheet of
paper.

Appliances and light bulbs are

connected in two different
conducting wires. One wire
connects from the source to the
appliances and light bulbs, and
another wire is connecting them
back to the voltage source.

Christmas lights are connected

in single conducting wire from
the voltage source.

Guide Questions:

A circuit that consists of one

1. Describe the series and a loop is called a series circuit.
parallel circuit. While a circuit that has two or
more loops is called a parallel
circuit.
Very good! In a series circuit, all
components form a single path
2. How does series and parallel for a current to flow. While in a
circuit work? parallel circuit, all components
are connected across each
other with exactly two common
nodes.

That’s right students.

Interesting ma’am.
How did you find our activity?

To add more knowledge and deepen

our understanding, let’s go with the
discussion.
Yes ma’am.
Are you ready?

If you are ready, please give me 3

claps, 3 stamps and say ready!
(1,2,3 Clap-1,2,3 stamp-ready!)
(1,2,3 Clap-1,2,3 stamp-ready!)

Properties of a Series Circuit

1. The total resistance of a series

circuit is the sum of all
resistances in the circuit. Total
resistance is always greater than
the individual resistances in a
series circuit.
2. The voltage source is equal to
the sum of all voltage in each
load in a circuit.
3. The current is constant across
each load.

Properties of a Parallel Circuit

1. The reciprocal of the total

resistance in a parallel circuit is
the sum of the reciprocal of all
resistances in the circuit. Total
resistance is always less than
the smallest resistance in the
circuit.
2. There is only one voltage which
is equal to a voltage source.
3. The total current is equal to the
sum of all currents in each load
in a parallel circuit.

Advantages and Disadvantages of

using a Series and Parallel Circuit.

You will watch a video about the

advantages and disadvantages series
and parallel circuit. But before that, I
want you to please take down notes or
take a picture because later on I will
choose 4 students to share the
disadvantages and disadvantages of
series and parallel circuit.

That’s the end of the video about the

advantages and disadvantages of a
series and a parallel circuit. Now who
wants to share their learning through
the video. Can you please enumerate Advantages of Using Series
the advantages of using series circuit? Connection

1. A series connection does

not overheat easily. The
more loads connected in
series circuit the amount
of current reduces.
2. In a series circuit, there
is the only one path for
the current to flow from
the voltage source to the
different loads. It would
be easy to connect and
disconnect new load.
3. Since series circuit is
less likely to overheat,
there is no need to use
expensive, thick wires.

Correct! How about the disadvantages

of using a series circuit? Disadvantages of using
Series Connection.

1. If one of the light bulbs is

damaged or removed in
a series connection, all
other light bulbs in the
circuit will not light too.
2. The addition of more light
bulbs in series circuit
causes a decrease in the
brightness of the bulbs.
The loads in a series
circuit are difficult to
control individually.
When the switch is off, all
loads in the circuit will
not function anymore.
3. It is difficult to identify the
damaged bulb in the
circuit.

That’s right. Let us move to the

advantages of using a parallel circuit? Advantages of Using a
Parallel Connection.

1. All loads in parallel

connection are directly
connected to the voltage
source.

2. In a parallel circuit, even

if one of the light bulbs is
damaged, all other light bulbs
will still function since the flow
of current is not entirely
interrupted.

3. Individual load in a
parallel circuit is easy to control.

4. All light bulbs and

appliances at home are
connected in parallel. Switching
off some appliances does not
affect other appliances.

That’s right. Lastly the disadvantages of

using a parallel circuit?
Disadvantages of Using
Parallel Connection

1. Overloading may happen if

appliances are simultaneously
used at home. Consequently,
overheating of wires takes place
which may lead to fire.

2. A parallel connection is
difficult to install, maintain, and
repair since large volume of
conducting wires is needed.
When problem in the
connection occurs, it is difficult
to identify which loop among the
many loops does not work.

3. It requires the use of several

conducting wires of varying
sizes.

Checking Your Understanding on
