VIII. Beneficiaries
Implementing “Project Hawak Kamay” in Barangay Sta. Clara, Batangas
City will help reduce common issues that the people have been experiencing in
their community. All the locals of the aforementioned barangay will benefit from
the proposed project since it talks about the holistic wellness of the community.
Concerning waste problems, a clean-up drive will be planned to maintain the
cleanliness of its surroundings and to ensure that waste is properly disposed of.
Residents would be responsible in disposing of their wastes as a result of this
activity, as they are aware that failure to do so may harm their health. Also to help
young learners build their literacy skills encompassing: reading, writing, and
numeracy; the proponents are to establish a literacy program for students in
pre-elementary. Lastly, the disaster awareness seminar will give knowledge to the
Office of the National Service Training Program

residents on disaster threats. Additionally, it will help strengthen the disaster

resilience of the community.

IX. Rationale of the project

In pursuit of Sustainable Development Goal 1: Sustainable Cities and

Communities, the project "Project Hawak Kamay: Bridging the Residents of Sta.
Clara to a Better Community" is proposed to address important sustainability,
resilience, and safety issues within Barangay Sta. Clara. This endeavor seeks to
improve the overall quality of life by supplying vital equipment and materials for
street safety and information dissemination, cultivating a secure and
well-informed community. Additionally, it aims to broaden its influence through
supplementary elements, namely a Learning Assessment for young learners that is
aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal 2: Disaster Awareness Seminar,
and Clean-Up Drive. The project aims to cultivate a community that is secure,
well-informed, and nourished, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of life.

The holistic approach of "Project Hawak Kamay" transcends the

boundaries of traditional community development; this initiative addresses beyond
the requisites of physical safety and infrastructure but also incorporates crucial
facets of human well-being. By integrating initiatives aligned with SDG 2
(Learning Assessment) embarking on a comprehensive community-wide clean-up
initiative, this project strives to foster a more resilient, sustainable, and
interconnected Barangay Sta. Clara, embodying the core principles of Sustainable
Development Goal 1. Through collaborative efforts and empowerment, the
overarching goal is to chart a course towards an enhanced and more prosperous
community, ensuring benefits for all residents.

X. Objectives
The "Project Hawak Kamay" aims to provide residents of the barangay
with a cleaner, healthier, and well-organized environment. Improving their
awareness with knowledge and abilities applicable to both daily living and
catastrophe relief. The project's particular goals are as follows:
● To help the community understand the significance of investing in
disaster preparedness.
● To improve awareness of all residents regarding proper waste disposal
in coordination with protecting our mother earth from being abused.
● To build the foundational literacy skills of children.

XI. Description of the project

Through the "Hawak Kamay" project, the group is able to determine and
meet the needs of the Sta. Clara community and its residents. In the pursuit of a
cleaner, safer, and healthier environment, there exists a profound need for
collective action and community engagement, especially at the local level. This
project focuses on problems that are occurring in the same barangay as its primary
objective. The flow of the project would circulate towards providing disaster
Office of the National Service Training Program

readiness and awareness seminars, continued on by the clean up drive and the
teaching for children ages 4-7 years old. By mobilizing community members,
local organizations, and volunteers, this project’s goal is deemed to be successful.

The security and safety of the place during disasters is very crucial and the
core factor of survival for every one. Raising awareness and spreading accurate
information would be beneficial not just to the locals, but to the authorities as
well. Success of survival would only be possible through the collaboration of
those in need and those who help. A seminar regarding disaster awareness and
preparedness would happen in hopes of addressing the concern regarding that. In
line with that, the proper disposal of waste in certain areas is one of the
environmental problems faced by Barangay Sta. Clara, we intend to organize a
clean-up campaign in these areas to encourage and create a safe and healthy
environment. In Sta. Clara, the group intends to assist the barangay officials in
cleaning the streets, sidewalks, and residential areas. We aim to not only remove
visible litter but also raise awareness about responsible waste management
practices tailored to our specific community needs. On the other hand, the volume
of the children in the barangay together with the progressing goal of advocating
literacy was considered before coming up with an activity, Learn with Love and
Laughter. It is specifically organized to address the needs of the children of the
residents in the barangay.

Through strategic planning, efficient waste segregation, and collaboration

with local authorities, this project outlines a multifaceted approach. By
implementing this project, it will be possible to guarantee that the locals are aware
of pertinent information about themselves and other barangay-related
complications. This project seeks to address the barangay's necessities, provide
solutions to problems, and be able to assist its residents.

XII. Strategies and methods of implementation

An organized and methodical approach is needed to carry out the "Project
Hawak Kamay" project to guarantee its success. These are some implementation
methodologies and techniques:

1. Assessing needs and engaging the community:

a. To comprehend the particular difficulties and concerns of the Sta.
Clara community, do a detailed needs assessment.
b. Utilize meetings, questionnaires, and conversations to engage with
the locals and make sure the suggested solutions fit their needs and
preferences.

2. Conducting Disaster Preparedness Seminar:

a. Work together with the local government to identify the disaster
threats and places with high vulnerability.
b. To promote disaster readiness and community resilience, a
representative of the barangay will be the speaker for disaster
preparedness.

3. Clean-up Drive:
Office of the National Service Training Program

a. Provide cleaning materials and waste bins for proper waste

disposal.
b. In partnership with the SK council and community residents, the
clean-up drive will target unkempt areas and those without proper
waste disposal areas.

4. Partnering with those who are involved:

a. Work together to secure support and guarantee a coordinated effort
with representatives of the local government, community leaders,
and other pertinent parties.
b. Form alliances with neighborhood companies, non-profits, or other
groups that can help the project with resources or knowledge.

5. Keep attention on and assess:

a. To track each project component's effectiveness, put in place a
comprehensive monitoring and evaluation mechanism.
b. To make the necessary corrections and enhancements, get resident
input.

6. Sustainability-Based Planning:
a. Create strategies to ensure the project's long-term viability, taking
into account continuous community involvement and infrastructure
maintenance.
b. To guarantee the ongoing success of the "Hawak Kamay" project,
look at possibilities for community-led projects.

The project can be implemented in a more methodical manner that is

responsive to community needs and has a greater chance of producing
long-lasting beneficial effects by using these strategies and methodologies.
