II. Session Outline
"The Flood Story”
Session Title: The Flood Story, found in various mythologies and religious texts worldwide, often portrays
a catastrophic deluge sent by God as a form of divine punishment or cleansing.
At the end of the session, learners will be able to:
a) Read “The Flood Story”;
b) Recall significant parts of the story through its summary;
Session c) Explain the moral of the story;
Objectives: d) Write a creative retelling of the flood story; and
e) Analyze the narrative structure of the flood story, including its exposition, rising
action, climax, and resolution, and evaluate how these elements contribute to its
overall impact and effectiveness.

Key Elements of a Story:


• characters (the people who take part in a story)
• setting (where and when a story takes place)
• plot (what happens in a story, the sequence of events)

ACTIVITY 1: CONCEPT MAPPING
Distribute the copies of the worksheets. Ask the students to study the given picture and list
down at least five (5) words or phrases that tells something about the given picture. Call for

Teacher Input: First, we are going to identify the key elements of the story:
Setting: The story is set in a time long ago, possibly in a primitive society where
people lived close to nature.
Characters:
The wise man: A prophetic figure who foresees the impending flood and instructs the
people to build a raft.
The very big crab: An enormous creature whose entry into the sea causes the
catastrophic flooding.
The people: The inhabitants of the land who heed the wise man's warning and

Plot:
Introduction: The story begins with the introduction of the very big crab and its entry
into the sea, causing the flooding of the earth.
Conflict: The impending flood poses a threat to all living beings on the land.
Rising Action: The wise man advises the people to build a raft as a means of survival.
Climax: The floods engulf the land, and the raft serves as a sanctuary for the people
and animals, saving them from drowning.
Resolution: After the waters recede, the raft returns to the ground near the survivors'
old home, indicating the successful execution of the wise man's plan. However, they
are now the only remaining people on earth.
Symbolism:
The very big crab: Represents the force of nature or an unforeseen event that brings
about a significant change or disaster.
The raft: Symbolizes resilience, foresight, and adaptability. It serves as a means of
salvation for those who heed the wise man's advice, contrasting with the fate of those
who ignore it.
The flood: Symbolizes destruction and the cleansing or renewal of the earth, leading
to a fresh start for the survivors.
Theme:
Survival and resilience: The story highlights the importance of foresight, preparation,
and cooperation in the face of adversity.
The consequences of ignoring warnings: The wise man's prophecy serves as a
cautionary tale about the repercussions of ignoring advice or failing to take action in
the face of impending danger.

10 to 15 minutes will be given for each partner to accomplish the Story Mountain. After that,
the teacher will initiate the checking of their answers.

even the highest mountains.
Falling Action:
The people and animals on the raft are safe while all others drown.
The waters eventually recede, and the raft settles near their old home, indicating that the
rattan cord held.
Resolution:
The people and animals on the raft are the only survivors left on the entire earth, having
been saved by their wise preparation and the strength of the raft's construction.
