ふ

The noun 振り has several di>erent

nuances in Japanese, with only one of
them being used in this particular
expression. That meaning is 4to show a
certain behavior pattern on the
outside4. Due to this, ふり doesn4t
speciNcally mean 4to pretend4, just that
what is happening on the outside may
be di>erent to what is happening
within a person (either mentally or
physically).

I still donIt Jnd any information it this
grammar point about the diKerence
between 〜た and 〜ている unless I
missed something.

I just got MWhen you pretended to cry, it

was useless.P in a review, the default
answer and the audio recording give M泣
いたふりをしたって無駄ですよP,…
however M泣いているふりをした…P is
accepted as an alternative answer.
Given that the past tense is carried by す
る here IIm still unsure what the nuance
between the two is, if any.

vs. Mwhen you were pretending to cryP?

I struggle a lot with the diKerent ways to
conjugate that grammar point,
probably because I donIt understand
the diKerence in english either.

What is the diKerence between saying:

分かっている ふりをしていた が and 分

かっている ふりをした が?

Is it like saying this in english?

I was pretending that I knew what was

going on, but I didnIt understand
anything.
I pretended that I knew what was goi…
on, but I didnIt understand anything.

Assuming the second sentence is

correct I donIt really see a diKerence in
meaning.
