EXAM GUIDE

MIDTERM EXAMINATIONS: PROPOSED TREE HOUSE PROJECT (the “TREE HOUSE”)

I. Statement of the Problem


You are tasked with designing a tree house (Airbnb type) that provides basic amenities for
sleeping (studio type), cooking, dining, and recreation. The tree house should blend
harmoniously with its natural surroundings while offering comfort and functionality to its
guests, drawing inspiration from the vernacular architecture of the Philippines. Your design
should incorporate sustainable practices wherever possible. Consideration should also be
given to safety, accessibility, and ease of maintenance.

II. Project Site Features


The project site is a regular lot located a few hundred meters from the main road. The site is
relatively flat. With oak trees located near point 3 (see Lot plan).

III. Design Objectives


The design should reflect sustainability while providing a comfortable and efficient living
space that strongly connects with the surrounding natural environment.

IV. Output
Required Presentation:
Use the format for one half (1/2) size vellum paper STORYBOARD; Scaled drawings in
freehand; provide quality architectural drafting techniques in ink – fully rendered. ALL drawings
in INK.
Storyboard layout that is marketable and attractive.

2. Front Elevation
3. Section (thru stairs)
4. Exterior perspective
5. Design Concept in PDF format with SURNAME, First Name_AR2211MT#01 Z,

V. Evaluation Tool
A rubric shall be used for grading your outputs Using the following criteria:
a. Solution (50%) – Efficiency and design solutions incorporated
i. Form and Function – 30%
ii. Integration of sustainable and vernacular concepts – 20%
b. Completeness (20%) – complete output that requires complex architectural thinking.
c. Presentation (30%) – adherence to architectural standards in presenting visually clear
solutions.
