A. PROJECT TITLE / SUB-TITLE

ESQUISSE. 01

B&B (Bed and Breakfast)

B. BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM

A bed and breakfast building is architecturally characterized by its inviting and homey design, often inspired by local or
historical aesthetics. Typically smaller in scale, it exudes a sense of intimacy and warmth. The structure may boast
charming features like gabled roofs, dormer windows, and a welcoming porch that extends an inviting gesture to guests.
The interior design is carefully thought out, with a collection of cozy, individually styled rooms that prioritize comfort and
personalization. Architectural elements and decor work in harmony to create an atmosphere of relaxation and community.

These buildings often incorporate communal spaces, such as cozy lounges or communal dining areas, encouraging
interactions between hosts and guests. The architecture of a bed and breakfast seeks to provide an experience that's
distinct from traditional accommodations, emphasizing a personal touch and a connection to the local surroundings .

C. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

In the heart of Tagaytay, Philippines, a couple envisions crafting a captivating modern Balinese-style bed and breakfast that
seamlessly merges the allure of tropical luxury with the charm of local culture. Their dream is to create a tranquil retreat that
celebrates both privacy and communal connection.

The architectural challenge lies in translating the essence of Balinese architecture into a contemporary context while
harmonizing with the lush Tagaytay landscape. Each of the six to seven guest rooms should be an oasis, complete with private
toilets and balconies that frame the breathtaking vistas. Integrating these balconies cohesively while adhering to the elegant
lines of Balinese design presents an intriguing puzzle.

Central to their vision is a communal living area adorned with Balinese motifs and materials, fostering a sense of unity among
guests. The preparation kitchen and pantry must facilitate culinary magic while adhering to the aesthetics of the region.

Creating the open ground for shared activities requires a delicate balance between design and functionality. The space should
accommodate everything from tranquil yoga sessions to lively bonfires and team-building events. This necessitates a creative
approach to landscaping that respects the terrain and elevates the guest experience.

Ultimately, the architectural journey encapsulates not just building a bed and breakfast, but embodying the spirit of Balinese
architecture in a contemporary Filipino setting. Balancing the couple's aspiration for a private haven with a vibrant communal
atmosphere, against the backdrop of Tagaytay's natural beauty, adds depth to the challenge and promises an enchanting retreat
for future guests.
