INTRODUCTION

This module also will allow the students to realize the importance of engaging in recreational
activities and utilize their time productively. It was also designed to fulfill the blended
learning, outputs or performances will be sent through online classroom or any platform of
virtual communication or computer-generated technology. It will allow you to discover your
interests from the information, awareness and trivia provided in this module while making
your family stay connected in your home.

OBJECTIVES

1. Determine and choose a recreation activity.


2. Develop interest for recreation activities.
3. Elaborate the benefits of engaging outdoor recreational activities.
4. Recognize the responsibilities in helping and maintaining the environment.

Introduction to Recreational Activities

What is Recreational Activity?


Are often done for enjoyment, amusement or pleasure and are considered to be fun.
Gives opportunity to be creative, to express basic needs and to be your real self.
The term recreation derived from Latin word recreare means to be refreshed.
Recreation can also mean to relax the mind and the body, and it can relieve a day-to-
day tension.
Existence time- time spent for biological needs, like eating, sleeping and personal care.
Subsistence time- hours spent for economic purposes like schooling, working.
Free time- the remaining time and spent for recreation

Classification of Recreational Activities

Spectator & Participant Types


Spectator Type: In this type of recreational activity, people enjoy watching the event
and deriving enjoyment from it. (Example: Watching a game/concert)
Participant Type: People gain enjoyment by joining the activity. (Example: Parlor
Games)

Active & Passive Types

Active Type: People have to function effectively in performing the action


(Ex: Dancing, Band)
Passive Type: People have minimal movement/actions in performing the activity (Ex:
Reading, Listening to music)
Physical & Mental Types

Physical Type: People exert efforts and bodily functions in performing the activity
(Example: Sports)
Mental Type: Utilizes the mind in doing the activities, requires minimal physical movements.
(Example: Puzzles, Sudoku, Chess)
Public & Private Types

Public Type: Activities that involves the general public (Example: Marathon)
Private Type: Confined to a certain group of people (Example: Team Building Exercises,
Retreat Activities, Family Outings)
Indoor & Outdoor Types

Indoors Type: Activities that can be done inside the comfort of the house (Examples:
Arts and Crafts, Reading)
Outdoors Type: Requires an outdoor environment (Example: Camping, Hiking)

What is Outdoor Recreational Activity?


 Outdoor recreation or outdoor activity refers to leisure pursuits engaged in the outdoors, often
in natural or semi-natural settings out of town. The primary purposes for outdoor recreation
are beneficial use and pleasurable appreciation.

Benefits of Outdoor Recreation Activities


Psycho-Emotional Benefit
Outdoor recreation has psychological benefits, including the prevention or reduction of stress;
improved self-esteem, confidence and creativity; spiritual growth; and an increased sense of
exhilaration, adventure and challenge from life.
Social Benefit
The great outdoors affords social benefits like bonding with like-minded people who enjoy outdoor
activities and feeling an increased pride in your community and nation.
Physical Health Benefit
Getting outside provides physical benefits, such as aerobic, cardiovascular and muscular
fitness, as well as improved functioning of the immune system.
Economic Benefit
Outdoor recreation pays off with economic benefits too: People who regularly participate in
outdoor recreation tend to be more productive at work. Outdoor recreation creates job
opportunities for others, which leads to economic growth. And the preservation of the natural
areas needed for outdoor recreation increases property values.
