PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A. General

This Section covers the following:

1. Frames.
2. Sidelights.
3. Transoms.
4. Borrow lights.

B. Related Work Specified Elsewhere:

1. Glass, glazing and sealants of the units shall be part of the work included in this
Section and shall be as specified in Section 08800, GLASS AND GLAZlNG.
2. Hardware other than door manufacturer's products identified herein is specified
in Section 08710 FINISH HARDWARE.

C. The supplying of fastenings, all connections to the building structure and other items not
mentioned specifically herein, but which are necessary to make a complete installation
shall also be included.

1.2 QUALITY CONTROL

A. Standards

The publications listed below form a part of this Specification to the extent referenced.
The publications are referred to in the text by basic designation only.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit the following in accordance with Section 01340:

1. Complete data and shop drawings on frames.


2. Sample of custom frame showing hinge reinforcement and finish.
3. Certified test reports indicating compliance with Project requirements where
testing methods are specified.
4. Procedures for re-glazing individual components.
5. Fixing details to wall cladding.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

A. Manufacturer.

B. Aluminium Frames.

1. Frames include all transoms, sidelights, borrow lights and view windows as
shown on the Drawings.
2. Frames shall be custom aluminium extrusions with 3.0 mm minimum wall
thickness, of profiles shown on the Drawings.
3. All breaks, angles and arrises shall be uniform, straight, sharply defined and true.
Corners shall be mitered, accurately fitted, welded, properly finished with
smooth, rigid, invisible joints.
4. Jamb anchors shall be manufacturer's standard type to suit wall construction. A
bent steel plate adjustable clip bolted to frames and of a material as specified for
jambs on-the-floor-construction shall be extended for proper anchorage at bottom
of jambs and secured with 10 x 50 mm expansion bolts or shot-in studs.
5. All frames shall be provided with temporary spreader channel at bottom.
6. Frame reinforcement shall be aluminium as follows:
a. Provide 10 mm minimum hinge reinforcement at each hinge location as
detailed herein.

b. Closer and holder arm reinforcement shall be 10 mm thick minimum.


c. Other reinforcement shall be 4.0 mm minimum unless the manufacturer
recommends greater reinforcing.
7. All interior frames shall be furnished with premolded door silencers securely
attached to frame, location and quantity as per manufacturer's specifications.
8. Provide removable 3.0 mm metal glass stop for all glazed openings.

C. Hardware shall be installed under this Section and, except as specified herein, shall be
furnished as shown on drawings.

D. Finish.

1. Exposed aluminium shall be coated with Polyvinylidene fluoride resins (PVD F)


(ASTM 605.2). Colour to be selected by the Company from full colour range.

E. Coal tar epoxy coating shall be submitted for the Company’s approval.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 PREPARATION

A. Provide separation between aluminium surfaces and sources of corrosion or electrolytic


action, such as copper or untreated steel, by coating contact area of dissimilar metals with
a 0.18 to 0.21 mm rate per coat of dry film coal tar epoxy coating.

B. Paint aluminium surfaces in contact with lime mortar or concrete with an alkali-resistant
coating.

3.2 INSTALLATION/APPLICATION/PERFORMANCE/ERECTION

A. Installation shall be in accordance with requirements of the manufacturer and as shown


on Drawings.

B. Installation shall be carried out by a specialist who has performed the same Aluminium
Frame installation for at least 10 years, and is approved by the manufacturer and the
Engineer.
