VOCABOLARIO
Ciao! We use this word to greet our friends and family and to say
both hi and good-bye. In more formal situations, or with people we
don’t know well, we use buongiorno during the daytime and
buonasera during the evening.
How do we know which one to use? A good rule of thumb is this:
if we call someone by his or her first name, we usually use ciao. If
not, then we use the more formal buongiorno or buonasera.
When in doubt, use the formal.
