PART F

PLEASE SPECIFY THE CHARACTERISTICS IN TERMS OF CONCENTRATION AND QUANTUM OF

HAZARDOUS AS WELL AS SOLID WASTES AND INDICATE DISPOSAL PRACTICE ADAPTED FOR
BOTH THESE CATEGORIES OF WASTES.

Hazardous Waste: The hazardous waste generated during various processes in the plant is
being collected in empty drums & then stored at Hazardous waste storage area. Authorization
for disposal of Hazardous waste has been obtained from CECB. It is being disposed off through
authorized recyclers/vendors by CECB as per the provisions mentioned in Hazardous Waste &
Other Waste (Management & Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016

Solid Waste: No solid waste is generated during the process of cement manufacturing.
The solid waste generated from the captive thermal power plant is fly ash and bed ash. The
ash collected in the ESP hoppers is pneumatically transported to the intermediate silo and
from where it is conveyed pneumatically to the fly ash silo near cement mill and finally used in
the manufacturing of Portland Pozzolana Cement. The bed ash is pneumatically conveyed to
bed ash silo. Bed ash also being used in clinker & cement manufacturing.

PART G

IMPACT OF POLLUTION CONTROL MEASURES ON CONSERVATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES

AND CONSEQUENTLY ON THE COST OF PRODUCTION.

The management of Rawan Cement Works, UTCL is environment conscious. The environment
management plan is carefully devised and implemented. In the financial year 1997-98, we have
adopted the International Standards for Environment i.e. ISO 14001. It shows our commitment
for preserving the natural resources. We have installed state-of-the-art technology available in
the world to ensure production of best quality product at the economic cost and optimum
energy consumption. We are utilizing 100% fly ash generated from the captive thermal power
plant in the manufacturing of Portland Pozzolana Cement.

Pollution control measures

State of the art APCEs have been installed in the Unit to capture the dust covering all the point
source emissions and material transfer points. There are 6 Bag house including RABH, 4 ESPs
attached with the boilers & clinker cooler to capture the particulate matter. Also more than
120 Bag Filters installed in the process at various material transfer points to capture the
Particulate Matter having efficiency more than 99%. The material captured by the APCEs is
automatically recycled back, which in turn enhances the process economy.
Water sprinkling arrangement has also been made at different plant locations and transfer
points to suppress fugitive dust. Greenbelt has also been developed to curtail wind velocity to
help reduce fugitive emission.
The entire captive Thermal Power plant has been designed and planned to operate with
environmental protection in focus.

• Turbines are designed to operate with efficient steam consumption per unit of power
generated;

• Circulating fluidized bed combustion (CFBC) boilers are installed with limestone dosing
provision for SO2 control and low NOx burners which is designed to give high thermal
efficiency

• High efficiency electrostatic precipitators are installed which is designed to achieve

particulate emission < 50 mg/Nm3 at TPP.

• One stack of 110 meter is provided and connected to boiler, which also help in better
dispersion of pollutants like particulate matter and SO2;

• Air-cooled condensers are installed at TPP, which significantly reduces water consumption
for cooling of exhaust steam.

• 100% fly ash & bottom ash is being transported pneumatically from ESP hopper to ash silos
for storage. Further fly ash is transported from silo to the cement grinding section for
Cement manufacturing. Hence no impact of the activity on the environment.

• Dust emission from coal stockyard and handling plant is controlled by Dust Suppression
System such as dust collector. Water spray by means of fixed or swiveling nozzles is
provided at material transfer point such as Crusher house, Bunkers, Conveyor chutes etc.
to suppress the dust.

• Plant is designed on zero discharge principle. Effluent generated from various processes
e.g. cooling tower blow down, Boiler blow down & DM Plant backwash etc. is collected in
neutralization pit for pH correction. As of now total waste water is used for spraying in the
bed ash cooling, coal handling plant to inhibit dust from flying & plantation. Domestic
wastewater is treated in the Sewage Treatment Plant and utilized for horticulture activities.

➢ Uniquely designated dust curtains made of scrap conveyor belts are used in drop chutes to
further prevent the fugitive emission. Regular air quality monitoring is carried out to
ensure the requirements as per the standards.

➢ The cooling water is recycled completely thereby saving considerable quantity of water.
Domestic sewage Water is being treated in sewage treatment plant (STP). The STP is
operated and maintained on round the clock basis. The treated water is maintained well
below the stipulated discharge norms. Nursery and garden is maintained near STP and
treated wastewater is used for Horticulture purpose. The sludge generated is dried in
sludge drying beds and used as manure for plantation. The entire water management part
is thoroughly planned to maximize its best utilization and in-turn is enriching the natural
environment at Grasim Vihar. We had installed and commissioned water treatment plant
for treatment of mines sump water and used for drinking / domestic purpose, thereby
extraction of ground water is totally stopped for plant / colony /mine domestic purpose
and ultimately conserved the precious ground water.

➢ Alternative fuel is being used in co-processing. During FY 2022-23, 6.37% TSR has been
achieved by the unit. Dedicated facility is developed along with the 20 TPH capacity
shredder for processing of AFR.

➢ Greenbelt strengthening is an ongoing process. Greenbelt plays an important role to

control air pollution and also gives and aesthetic look to the site. Selected species of plants
have been planted in and around the premises to control the fugitive dust. Local species of
trees are selected as approved by DFO, Raipur and green belt is developed. Since plant
starting 367222 saplings are planted in plant and colony till 31st March, 2023 with 79.9 %.
Survival rate. The plant has done major contribution towards development of ecological
balance in the area. Detail of the plantation carried out plant and colony during 2022-23 is
given in the table below

List of major activities undertaken during FY-2022-23

UltraTech Cement Limited Rawan Cement Plant is conducting various welfare

activities under Corporate Social Responsibility, health, education, sustainable
livelihood development, infrastructure and social reform programs. The program
is being operated for a population of 22860 in 15 villages of Simga, Palari and
Balodabazar development blocks of Baloda Bazar Bhatapara district.

The program operation is done through the trained CSR team. CSR Center has
been established for better coordination of operational activities. It also ensures
the participation of government and non-government institutions in conducting
various activities. Computer lab auditorium, training room with all facilities have
been arranged for various training activities from this center.

Sustainable Livelihood

Under sustainable livelihood our CSR wings organize different programs during FY
2022-23 for nearby villages formers and peoples.
