Search Abstract
Study title: effectiveness of using the internet in doing homework on developing the academic a chievement in
chemistry for the secondary school first graders in Makkah .
This study aims at exploring the effectiveness of using the internet in doing homework on developing the
academic achievement at the three cognitive levels (remembering, understanding and applying) in chemistry
for the secondary school first graders in Makkah . The study problem was identified in the following main
question:
"What is the effectiveness of using the internet in doing homework on developing the academic achievement at
the three cognitive levels (remembering, understanding and applying) in chemistry for the secondary school
first graders in Makkah?
To answer the main question the study has managed in forming the following zero hypotheses:

There are no significant statistical differences between the mean scores of the experimental group, in
which students do their homework via the internet, and the control group of the posttest, in which
students do their homework via textbooks only at the post remembering level of chemistry, after
managing the pre achievement.
There are no significant statistical differences between the mean scores of the experimental group, in
which students do their homework via the internet, and the control group of the posttest, in which
students do their homework via textbooks only at the post understanding level of chemistry, after
managing the pre achievement.
There are no significant statistical differences between the mean scores of the experimental group, in
which students do their homework via the internet, and the control group of the posttest, in which
students do their homework via textbooks only at the post applying level of chemistry, after managing
the pre achievement.
There are no significant statistical differences between the mean scores of the experimental and
control groups at the three cognitive levels (remembering, understanding and applying), after
managing the pre achievement.
To answer the study question, the semi-experimental approach was used after identifying the study society
in the (fourth) secondary school for the experimental group and the (nineteenth) secondary school for the
control group. The sample was used by a sample random method (lot). It consisted of a classroom in the
(fourth) secondary school for the experimental group with ( students) and a classroom in the (nineteenth)
secondary school for the control group with ( students). There were, therefore, students for the two
groups. The achievement pretest was executed first. It was followed by performing the experiment. After that
the achievement posttest was performed. The study instruments were limited to the following:

An achievement test in the chapter of the periodic table of elements in the chemistry curriculum for the
secondary school first graders at the three cognitive levels (remembering, understanding and applying).
After performing the pre and posttest for the sample, treating the results of the achievement test by using
the Cronbach Formula, in which the stability coefficient was calculated by calculating the Alpha
Coefficient, the arithmetic means, the standard deviations, "f" test for the mean differences among each
group between the pre and posttest, Pearson correlation coefficient and ANACOVA as a statistical method
the following results were achieved:
The first, second and third and fourth zero hypotheses were refused. The alternative hypotheses however
were accepted. In these hypotheses, there are significant statistical differences of (.) between the mean
scores of the experimental group, in which students do their homework via the internet, and the control
group of the posttest, in which students do their homework via textbooks only, in the academic
achievement at the post remembering, understanding and applying levels and at the three post cognitive
levels (remembering, understanding and applying) in chemistry, after managing the pre achievement for
the experimental group.
Conducting more studies and researches about the using, importance, efficacy and how to use the
internet and their relations to the different educational outcomes of the students in the other
educational stages.
