In Automatic welding, the five basic intervals

are:

Squeeze interval in which the welding


electrode comes forward and engage the
metal, pressing against the surface. The
squeeze time is about 1 second.
Weld interval is about 2 10 seconds
during which the welding transformer is
energized and the current flows and create
a weld. The current is not continuous but
on and off in short burst called pulsations.
In heat subinterval, the current is on. In
cool subinterval, the current is off.
Hold interval in which the weld interval is
finished but the electrode pressure is
maintained on the metal surface for the
weld to harden about 1 second.

Release in which the welding electrode is


retracted.

Standby interval in which the time after


release interval to the next start sequence.
