5.1: IDENTIFY SOCIAL POLICY AT THE LOCAL. STATE, AND FEDERAL
LEVEL THAT IMPACTS WELL-BEING, SERVICE DELIVERY, AND ACCESS
TO SOCIAL SERVICES

• Understand court and state policies


• Understand difference from guardianship versus adoption and how it affects
a child in the future
• Guardianship:
• Establishes legal relationship between child and adult, but does not end legal
relationship between child and biological parents
• Possibly temporary
• Adoption:
• Legally terminates the rights of a child’s legal or biological parents
• Permanent
5.2: ASSESS HOW SOCIAL WELFARE AND ECONOMICS
POLICIES IMPACT THE DELIVERY OF AND ACCESS TO
SOCIAL SERVICES

• Make appropriate case plans for birth and foster parents

• Transport when appropriate to accommodate biological parents if they do


not have transportation

• Recommend a visitation schedule to accommodate all parties


5.3: APPLY CRITICAL THINKING TO ANALYZE, FORMULATE, AND
ADVOCATE FOR POLICIES THAT ADVANCE HUMAN RIGHTS AND
SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, AND ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE

• Meet quarterly with NC benchmarks to address DSS policies that need


improving

• Reach out to representatives about policies that need to be reformed that


impact the agency
