COMPANY: AGROCEL INDUSTRIES LTD.

Company profile
Set up in 1994, this Division has swiftly
become an expert manufacturer of
Bromine as well as a renowned
manufacturer and exporter of Bromine in
the heart of the Greater Rann salt desert
Why the awkward
location?
This location affords a unique advantage:
it is from this 28,000 acre–site that the
Division harnesses the principal raw
material – sea bittern – which is not only
renewable but also unlimited in its
availability.
Numerous problems occuring in the
company

1) Cavitation problem in impeller.

2) Material slippage on conveyor belt.
3) Problem in piping design of pumping
system.
4) Chocking up of rotary valve.
Impellers
An Impeller is a rotary component
of centrifugal or positive
displacement pump. This is used
to transfer energy from motor
that drives the pump to fluid
being pumped by accelerating
the fluid outwards from the
centre of rotating.

Area of focus:
Effects of cavitation on impellers.

What is cavitation?
Cavitation is the formation and
accumulation of bubbles around a pump
impeller. This tends to form in liquids of
any viscosity as they are being
transported through and around a pump
system. When each of these tiny bubbles
collapses or bursts, it creates a high
energy shock wave inside the liquid.

PITTING CORROSION DUE TO CAVITATION

How does it occur?
Hydrodynamic cavitation describes
the process of vaporization,
bubble generation and bubble
implosion which occurs in a
flowing liquid as a result of a
decrease and subsequent
increase in local pressure.
Types of Cavitation
Vaporization
Turbulence
Vane syndrome
Internal re-circulation
Air aspiration cavitation
Symptoms of cavitation
Decreased flow/pressure
Unexpected vibrations
Impeller erosion
Seal/bearing failure
Erratic power consumption
noise
Cavitation prevention
methods
Here are some ways to avoid
cavitation:
We can apply a coating by
spraying method or powder
coating to increase the life of the
impeller
We can weld the cavitated
impeller to increase its lifespan.
