Objectives:

At the end of the session, the participants will

be able to:

 visualize the area of a circle;

 derive the formula for finding the area of a
circle;
 find the area of a circle
 solve routine and non-routine problems
involving area of a circle
 create problems involving area of a circle
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Activity 1

Think of ways on how to find the area of this circle.

5 units
•What is the radius of the circle?
•How will you find the area of the circle?
•How will you derive the formula for the area of the circle?

Presentation of Outputs

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
1. What can you say about the activity?
2. What were your thoughts while doing the
activity?
3. What did you find easy in doing the activity?
Why?
4. What did you find difficult in doing the
activity? Why?
5. What mathematical skills have you applied in
solving for the answers to the situations?

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
To find the area of a circular region, we can use
the formula
𝐴 = 𝜋𝑟 2
For better understanding how the area of a
circular region is found we can visualize by:
a. using the area of corner square
b. transforming it to approximate
parallelogram

Activity 2
A. Solve for the following problems:

1. If Laura runs twice around a circular field and covers a

distance of 217.28 m, what will be the area of the circular field?
2. The area of a table top is 165.05 cm2. Find the radius of the
table.
3. If a circular garden has 63.59 m2 what is its diameter?

B. Make a problem involving area of a circle. Show your

solution.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Are the items made congruent to the learning
competencies?

Do you think the items are suited for the grade

level?

Do the problems articulate the use 21st century

skills?

Parting Thoughts:
“There is something particularly special and
personal about the circle and how its curves
comfortably rule every aspect of our lives.”
― Kat Lahr

“My love is a spiral, not a circle. A circle

goes around, but never goes anywhere,
while a spiral goes around, but
constantly rises. ”
