Multiplexing
 Multiplexing Stand for Many into One.

 In Multiplexing Multiple Signals are sent from

different users as one Composite signal Over a
common Channel &

 At receiving End these signals are separated out.

Multiplexing

Basic Types of Multiplexing

 1)Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM)

 2)Time Division Multiplexing.(TDM)

Frequency Division Multiplexing
 It is Based on Sharing the available bandwidth
of a communication channel among the various
signals which have to be transmitted.
Block diagram of FDM
Why There is need of Modulation
Advantage of FDM
 FDMdoes not need synchronization
between its transmitter & Receiver.

 Largenumbers of signal can be

transmitted.

 The demodulation process of FDM is easy.

Disadvantage of FDM
 The large number of Modulators & filters are
required

 The communication channel must have a

very large Bandwidth.

 FDM suffers from the problem of crosstalk

& intermodulation Distortion.
Application of FDM
 It is commonly used in TV N/w ,Cable TV.

 FDM is used for FM & AM Radio broadcasting.

 First Generation Cellular Telephone also uses

FDM.
