Finding the gradient from an equation
When the equation of the line is written in the gradient-intercept
form, we can find the gradient by looking at the coefficient of x
(some equations will need rearranging)

Find the gradient of the line 2x + 5y – 17 = 0

Finding the gradient from an equation
Find the gradient of the line with the equation:

y = 3 – 2x 3x + y – 7 = 0 Find the gradient of the
line ax + by + c = 0

2x – 7y = 8
y= Hence find the gradients:

4x + 11y – 9 = 0 5x + 4y – 10 = 0
y=
7x – 9y = 63 -x + 3y – 2 = 0

-2x + y = -3
Checking to see if a point lies on a line
A point lies on a line if its coordinates satisfy the equation of the
line.

Does (3, -2) lie on the line with the equation 5x – 2y = 20?
