Expressing agreement,
disagreement and partial
agreement
Agreement and disagreement
In a conversation, you may totally agree with what the
other person says, or you may partially agree with
reservation.
On the other hand, you may mildly or even strongly
disagree with the other person. What can you say in
each of these situations.
There are several ways how we can communicate our
agreements or disagreements.
Expressing total agreement

Expressing total disagreement

Instructions to agree
Nod your head "yes”.

This is the simplest way to acknowledge what someone says and that you
agree.

Wait until is your turn to speak and use expressions such as "I agree

with. . .," "I think. .. its a good idea,“. "I think you're right."

Partial agreement: begin by agreeing with what another person has said,

but add a qualifier if you do not completely agree. E.g. I agree with you, but.

“That makes sense; however. . .“. It's a good idea, but.

Expressing total agreement
I agree with you.
E.g. Ronaldo is the best football player in the world.

I couldn’t agree more.

I completely agree.
 E.g. The government should pay for everybody’s education.

That’s so true.
Absolutely.
(slang) Tell me about it!
E.g. Catalonia should be independent.

Exactly.
I was just going to say that.
e.g. I think Italian food is fantastic!!

 Yes, you are right.

 Isn't its little difficult to prepare?
 Yes, It´s marvelous.
 I don't really agree with you.
 Do you?
 Especially pizzas.
Expressing partial agreement
I agree with you up to a point.
That’s true but…
 You could be right.
It sounds interesting, but..
Possibly.
That might work.
That’s one way of looking at it.

E.g. Female are responsible for increase in crime against

females. They don’t raise their voice against crime.

That’s one way of looking at it but I don’t think only

female are responsible , I would say entire society is
responsible for it.
Instructions of total disagreement
Shake your head as “No”
Remain calm. Keep any anger or disrespect in check.
Calmly express your disagreement, all the while
respecting the other person's opinions.

Use phrases such as "I disagree because. . ."; "The

problem with that is. . ."; "The way I see it. . ."; "I'm
against it because. . ."; "Instead, I think that. . ."
E.g. " A tree is more important than a car"

Disagree
 I'm afraid I'm not convinced.

 I don't entirely agree.

 I'm not sure about that.

 I can't agree with you there.

 I don't think that's quite correct.

Issue:
Television Plays a Positive Role in Society
 Expressions  Because of this…
 To put it simply…
 Well, from my point of view…  Unless we…, we won’t…
 Don’t you think that…?  That sounds like a good idea, but…
 What about you?  I’m not really sure…
 What’s your reaction to that?  If you ask me…
 Would you like to add anything?  Don’t you agree that…?
 In spite of this, …  You know what I think?
 As a matter of fact…  I’m not sure if I agree.
 Even so…  Maybe, but don’t you think that..?
 What’s more…

Agreement:- Disagreement :-
Well, from my point of view Don’t you think that
television is now playing a television is a great time waster.
very important role in our lives.
Expressing an informal way
To express agreement in an informal way:
you may simply say “me too”.
For example, Angela said: I like tomato juice.
Adam said: Me too.

To express disagreement in an informal way:

you may simply say “me neither”.
For example, Angela said: I don’t like pancakes. Adam said:
But I like it.
So do I / Neither do I / etc
 I’m very interested in  So am I.
archaeology.
 I can’t stand waiting in  Neither can I.

Indian Culture Vs Western Culture.
Hello Everyone....Lets Start Our Discussion On
The Topic...
In Favour of Indian culture –
 There is no doubt that our Indian culture is far more superior than any
other culture in the world. We don't have to follow others or other
countries.
 There is a huge difference between Indian and western culture.
if you are the one who is asking- which one is the best then, I would say
Indian culture. Some may not be agree with me, but if you give me a
chance though you might find me right.
Indian culture has given many things to mankind :-
1. Manners like respecting parents, teachers, elders etc evolved from
Indian culture.
 2. The aspect of seeing god in all- statues, stones, human, animals arise
from Indian mythology.
 3. It has been also proved that the Indian ceremonial fire- Yagya, gives
many benefits to the surroundings like, clean air, peaceful atmosphere,
etc.
 4. Various sciences like Arithmetic, geometry, astrology, astronomy,
medicine and even psychology has been studied by Indian saints.
  5. Surprisingly- none of the facts written in vedas has yet been proved
wrong or incorrect.
 Family and its value’s is the key part of Indian culture, which doesn't
exists in western culture
In Favour of Western culture
 I think western culture is good in many ways. Its very liberal and
always ready for a change and also has individuality and thing which is
wrong with our culture is our rigidity. We can not change ours easily.
Conclusion :-
 Both cultures have got their own sweet charm. Their culture suits their
environment it may not fit in our Indian culture. There a woman
walking on beach with a swimsuit may not be an object of attraction
because its their way of living, where as in India a woman walking a
swimsuit will draw a huge amount of attention,
 But when it comes to family ,relation... And deep rooted values..Our
golden bird India is far better than western..

Being rich is being
successful
Being rich is being successful
 Yes.
 We live in a materialistic world where everything including
relationships is defined by money. If there is no money, there is no
scope to sustain in the materialistic world.
 In the present world, even beauty can be bought with money. There are
many popular film-stars who opted for surgeries and now are
successful in their career.
 For being successful it is essential to acquire good education and again
it comes from money. Success and money cannot be separated from
each other.
 In Indian society, a girl is called successful if she gets a good husband
and family. Even if a girl is not beautiful but her parents are
millionaire, she will find a guy for marriage easily. That is why being
rich is called as being successful.
 Parents start differentiating between their own kids on basis of their
earnings. More importance is given to the child who is earning more.
 No
 There are many gangsters who have huge amount of money. But in no
case they can be called as successful in our society.

 The definition of success varies from person to person, and therefore it

is not essential that rich person might always feel successful.

 There are many rich and famous people who have attempted suicides
in their life. If being rich is being successful, then what made them to
take such disastrous steps?

 Being successful is being satisfied with whatever things we have.

Money cannot buy satisfaction and happiness, and a person without
these feelings cannot be called as successful.

 Sanjay Dutt is a son of a famous politician and is one of the richest

celebrities. Still, he is behind lock-up. Is this what we call as success?
People who talk that MONEY can buy anything are really up
for sale themselves. Yes money will buy:
Amusements but not happiness.
A bed but not sleep.
Books but not wisdom.
A clock but not more time.
Companions but not friends.
Finery but not beauty.
Food but not appetite.
A house but not a home.
Medicine but not health.
Conclusion
Here, it is important to know that being rich is
definitely being a successful person. Most of the times,
success is defined in terms of money. However, again
success and rich, these are two relative terms and
holds different definitions for different people. A
person with Rs 10, 000 salary may think himself as rich
and successful while a person with Rs25, 000 salary
might not be happy.

social networking sites.
 These networking systems are also helpful from business point of view.
As you can make new contacts on these sites.
 In recent times this means has become popular to advertise your work,
product etc. as it gets circulated very fast on these sites.
 Against

 Personal lives are getting affected as they have started sharing their
personal things on these sites.
 On these sites people make friends and spend long hours chatting with
them whom they have never seen or met.
 Young generations are becoming more and more addicted to these sites.
 Somewhere the real social life of people is getting affected very badly as
find it more comfortable and find time to chat with a stranger than
finding time to meet friends or relatives.
 Recently there was a case of a social networking site where a girl
attempted suicide after reading a message of her boyfriend. These types
of incidents are increasing day by day.
 The security issues – physical as well as those related to computers are
increasing as the teenagers do not understand the effective usage of
social networking.
Conclusion -
Social networking on Internet has its advantages as
well as disadvantages. It is good means of sharing if
utilized in a proper manner. But if people use it
without understanding its benefits and pitfalls then it
might cause problems in their lives.
