Mayor Praxedes P. Villanueva II Memorial High School, Tamisu, Bais City is located on a
mountainside just above the Praxevilla Elementary School. The school caters the needs and
potentials of the students from Barangay Tamisu and its neighboring barangays; namely Barangay
Katacgahan, and Barangay Tagpo of Bais City, Barangay Mandalupang and Alangilanan of the
municipality of Manjuyod.
These students are mostly children of sugarcane farmers who are working in the surrounding
sugarcane plantations. Hence, some of them are also engaged in the “KARTAPS” system of work
especially the male students. Majority of these students have to walk their way to school everyday.
Those who are living far from school need to hitch a ride from any available vehicle that may pass
their way or else they have to spend an hour or two walking. During bad weather, these students
have to refrain from going to school due to the difficult terrains that they have to pass, e.g. flooded
rivers, slippery slope, landslide prone areas and the like.
With the present dilemma of our students, some of them prefer to drop from school than
to continue their studies. Below is a graphic presentation of the school’s dropout rate for the
last three years.

What have we done…
With the increasing dropout rate of the school which make it to have the highest
points in the school priority improvement area prioritization rubric , the school CI Team
design a project that will address this gap.
#3D: DROPOUT: Decrease, Diminish project is intended to solve the school’s
problem on dropout which has caused a ripple effect on the other performance indicators.
It was noted that the 7.99% dropout rate for the SY 2018-2019 has caused the school to
lose 25 students from its enrolment last year.
With the help of the PTA and the SSG officers, the school aims to decrease the
dropout rate by 2% this school year. Therefore it is expected that from 7.99% it will lower
to 5.99% or equivalent to 16 students against the 328 enrolment.
This project has started from the Early Registration Program of SY 2019-2020. This
involves the participation of the members of the barangay council, parents, School Student
Government officers, Grade 12 students who are members of the Atong Gugma Alang sa
Kabataan (AGAK) Project of our school, faculty and staff of Mayor Praxedes P. Villanueva
II MHS and other stakeholders.
Under this project, learners who are identified to be at risk of dropping out are closely
monitored by concerned teachers and Grade 12 AGAK members. They are given
assistance in their studies through tutorial sessions, attendance monitoring and follow up
meetings with their parents. These students are also provided with a Senior high school
buddy who will encourage them to participate in class discussions and activities.

Where are we now?
Conducting the CIP on #3D: Dropout, Decrease, Diminish entails a lot of patience and
perseverance since some of the target students are not cooperating in a manner that they
are expected to. Hence, AGAK members have to intensify their duties and responsibilities
with their assigned LARDOs. These AGAK volunteers are purposefully chosen to give
assistance to LARDOs who are their neighbors. During recess time, LARDOs are also
monitored by the AGAK members and student-brigade members to make sure that they will
go back to their classes after taking their snack. Likewise, class advisers also make follow
ups with their students who have been reported to have irregular attendance in class by
sending letters to their parents. Hence, students who have been called in a conference with
their parents are asked to write a promissory not to be absent from class without any valid
reason. However, if there is no progress with the student’s performance in spite of the
intervention given by the school, concerned parents of these students are called again for
an agreement on how to resolve the problem. Unfortunately some of these parents just
decided to let their children stop schooling by writing a letter/ note informing the teachers
that their children will no longer attend their classes.
For the 1st semester, our school has made close monitoring to 46 LARDOs, 9 from
them have dropped from school at the end of the 2nd quarter due to several factors.
On the next slide are some of the undertakings that the school and its stakeholders
conducted in order to resolve the dropout problem and some of the obstacles that hinder
the realization of the school’s goal.

Where do we go from here?
At the beginning of the 2nd semester, the school has already recorded 10
dropout students. Hence, the school has called the attention of the general PTA
officers and the barangay officials during its 2nd Quarter SMEA regarding this
matter. They have promised to participate actively in addressing this concern.
The school also commits to undertake the following activities with the hope
that these can help the learners in pursuing their studies.

-Intensify parent’s participation in resolving

dropout problem
-Continue the AGAK Project
-Coordinate with 4Ps parent-leaders
-tap Barangay Officials
-Adopt-A-Child Program
