Food: Where Does It Come From?

Concepts: Food, Ingredients, Sources of ingredients, Edible, Plant, Herbivores,


Carnivores, Omnivores.

Vocabulary: Spices, pulses, cereals, butter, cheese, curd, root, stem, edible, seed,
sprout, nectar, hive, cattle, and products.

1) What do you eat/drink at home?


A: tea, milk, chapatti, bread, rice, curry, noodles, fish, chicken, tomato, apple,
ganana, dal, kheer etc.
2) These are the food item which we eat /drink daily.
3) Take any one food item and find out the different things needed to make the same.
E.g.: Tea: Water, Sugar, Tea powder.
So here (water, sugar, tea powder) are the ingredients of tea.

Chapatti atta, water
Dal pulses, spices, water, salt, oil
Fish curry fish, spices, salt, oil, water
m milk, sugar, rice, salt, cashew nut, water
Chicken curry chicken, water, spices, salt, oil

A: We eat the stem.
The part of the plant that we eat is edible (eatable)
What about honey?
Is it a plant product or animal product?
Q: How do we get Honey? Who gives us honey?
A: Bees collect nectar (sweet juice) from flowers and convert it into honey
and store it in their hive.
{Convert: like milk convert into curd; lime convert into lemon juice etc}
{Hive: A place where bees make honey}
