Self Cleaning Filter explanation
• Consists of media type filter elements
• When the filter element pressure drop is high (clogged /
dirty filter) the filter element is pulsed with a blast of high
pressure reverse air flow to dislodge the accumulated dust
from the filter.
• Pulse air is provided from gas turbine compressor
extraction through an air processing skid, or from an
auxiliary source.
• Dust is then collected in a hopper and blown back to the
atmosphere.
• Self-cleaning filters are low maintenance and have a
longer life than static filters. They contain surface loading
media, which trap the particles on the outside surface to
form a dust layer/cake. The filters’ efficiency increases as
the dust accumulates and since the dust is on the surface,
it can be easily dislodged with the reverse pulse air.
• Only a maximum of 10% of the filter elements are
cleaned at one time beginning with the top row and
continuing down to the bottom. This is to ensure minimum
usage of compressed air from the compressor as it
degrades overall turbine efficiency. The duration of the
cleaning pulse is approximately 0.1 second and the time
interval between pulsations is approximately 9 seconds
